LEOMINSTER --- William H. Hume, 80 years old of Leominster, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in North Carolina.

He was born July 20, 1936 in Apple River, Illinois, the son of John T. and Vesta (Roberts) Hume. He leaves his wife of 60 years, JoAnne P. (Sorette) Hume, 2 sons, James W. Hume of Leominster and John A. Hume and his wife Kimberley of Clermont, Florida, his daughter Donna A. Martineau and her husband Robert of Lehigh Acres, Florida, 6 grandchildren, Shawn Hume, Priscilla Hume, Arielle Hume, Karaline Guerrera, Candace Hume, John Hume, 6 great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Shelby Hume and his sister Lawana Genthe.

William retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service attaining the rank of SFC. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, receiving the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st-7th Awds), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device and the United States Recruiter Badge. He later went to work for the Department of Unemployment, working with veterans for 17 years, before retiring. He was a member of the Franco American War Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles # 477, American Legion Post 151, Leominster Elks Lodge # 1237, Leominster Sportsmen’s Club, and the D. A. V. He enjoyed wintering in Florida, gardening, fishing and was an avid golfer.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 10 am - 11 am in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St. Leominster, followed by a funeral service at 11am in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Of Hope, P.O Box 426,Leominster MA. 01453.
