LEOMINSTER ----- Andrew “Andy” Henry Buja Jr., 79, of Leominster, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at UMass Memorial Medical Center, in Worcester, Massachusetts, after an illness.

Andy was born July 27, 1937, in Leominster, where he lived all his life.

He was predeceased by his parents, Della (Nichols) and Andrew Henry Buja.

After graduating from Leominster High School in 1955, Andy attended Becker Junior College where he earned his Associate of Science degree in Accounting in 1957. Shortly after graduating with his degree, Andy began working in data entry with the former Independent Lock in Fitchburg. He also joined the Army National Guard where he was a member for 6 years.

He later took a data entry manager position at the former Foster Grant manufacturing company in Leominster. The day Andy started at Foster Grant, he met a young woman, Sandra DiRusso, who was also starting her first day on the job. The two would begin dating a year later and eventually married.

Andy spent 27 years at Foster Grant, finishing as a customer service manager before the company moved across the country. While there, he was a member of the softball team and played Wednesday night ping pong with several work buddies. He was also a member of the Leominster Sportmen’s Association. Following Foster Grant, Andy took a data processing manager position at the former Milor Corporation in Leominster where he eventually retired.

After retirement, Andy spent a lot of quality time with his mother shopping and looking for bargains. His pastimes included golfing, gardening, doing Sudoku puzzles, coin collecting, keeping up with the news of the day, and rooting on the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, to whom he was married to for 55 years, he leaves behind his son, Andrew A. Buja and his wife Elissa; his daughter, Melissa Buja; of Leominster; and his daughter Laura Palino and her husband Robert, of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Stephanie Buja, Caitlyn Buja, Christopher Palino and Angela Palino.

Andy also leaves behind three siblings, Linda DeMego and Thomas Buja, both of Leominster; and Patricia Romano, of Peabody. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Philosophical in nature, Andy always had words of wisdom for his family and friends. He was famous for several catch phrases that could always make family and friends smile or laugh, some of which included, “Somebody’s gotta do it”, “Never stop learning...”, and “Nothing lasts forever.”

Andy was always willing to lend a help hand to anyone who asked, as that was his nature. Although a void is left in the hearts of many, his smile, laugh and sense of humor will never be forgotten by those who loved and adored him.

Andy’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St. Leominster, with an 11 am funeral mass at Holy Family of the Nazareth Church, 750 Union St. Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Dad,
I wrote this on Facebook - I will always LOVE you until the end of time and then some.

I've loved my Father for 51 years. He has been the BEST Dad I could EVER ask for. How I wish I could wrap my arms around him and kiss him just one more time, but I can't because he passed away on Friday June 2nd, 2017. He has been my foundation and my strength when I thought I couldn't do something. He always told me in my younger years " You can do whatever you want to do as long as your heart is in it. Don't let the little things in life stress you out, it's not worth it. Use your energy for good stuff, don't waste it on something stupid. If it's yours, it'll be there for you, if it's not, it's not meant to be. TRUE friends will care for you no matter what. Even if years go by, they will still care for you, but it's up to us to keep that bond going. LOVE everybody, because hate only kills you inside slowly." He loved his family (and friends) so much. It is only right to love one another as GOD has loved us.
Four hours before he passed, we removed his life support. He awoke so alert and aware. We reminisced and laughed with BIG smiles with him in our conversation for about 45 minutes. Then, he began to tire so heavily, and he drifted off to sleep. (I felt like the apostles with Jesus in the garden.) In his 3 hours of blissful sleep we watched him slip away so peacefully.
So everyone out there who has a father who is alive...Be there for your parents. THEY LOVE YOU. And no matter what any one tries to tell you....LOVE them, FORGIVE them, and LOVE them some more. HUG them and kiss them and LOVE them again. 😘👩‍👩‍👧‍👧
Rest in Peace Dad -- I miss you and you are forever in our hearts, Thank you to EVERYONE who has support us on this heartfelt journey.
