LEOMINSTER -- Donald J. Bastarache, 80 years old of Leominster, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at home.

Donald was born on December 30, 1936 in Fitchburg MA, a son of Phillip. And Exilda (Leger) Bastarache. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Judith A. (Girard) Bastarache, 2 sons, Ronald Bastarache of Leominster, and Robert Bastarache and his wife Kristen of Leominster, 2 daughters, Cheryl Richardson and her husband Gregg of Leominster, and Pamela J. McLaughlin and her Fiancé Christopher of Leominster, 7 grandchildren, Chad Richardson, Megan Richardson-Lin, Kaley McLaughlin, Kattryn Mathieu, Jameson Bastarache, Kaelyn Bastarache and Kendall Bastarache, his great grandchild Tourren Mathieu, and his sister Lucille Dalton of Venice Florida.

He was predeceased by his 2 brothers, Roger and Raymond Bastarache.

Donald was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1954 - 1956. He was a Master Electrician for Fitchburg State University, later going to work as an Electrical Engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections- MCI Concord, until retirement. After retiring he was a runner for Prime Toyota in Lancaster. He was a member of Leominster Sportsman’s Club, Board of Directors at the Leominster Senior Center, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was an avid motorcyclist and a jack of all trades.

Donald’s calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 3pm-5pm in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St. Leominster. Burial with military honors will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon .In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Leominster Veterans Memorial Center 100 West St. Leominster MA. 01453 or to the Leominster Senior Center, 5 Pond St. Leominster MA. 01453.
