LEOMINSTER — Tacia (Economou) Fiffy, 88 years old, of Leominster, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 in the Holy Trinity Nursing & Rehab Center in Worcester. She is survived by her 2 sons, John A. Fiffy of Leominster and Ted A. Fiffy of Westminster, her daughter Maria M. Fiffy of Leominster, her 3 granddaughters, Stephanie Fiify and Alison Fiffy both of Leominster and Kayla Fiffy of North Attleboro and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander J. Fiffy in 1993. She was also predeceased by 2 brothers, John and Costa Economou, and 2 sisters, Dimitra Economou and Evangeline Vrountas.

Mrs. Fiffy was born in Agios Petros, Greece on July 3, 1922, daughter of Theodore and Metaxia Economou and lived in Athens. She moved to the United States in 1946 and settled in Brighton with her sister Evangeline. She was married in 1948 and was proud to have attended night school to obtain her U.S citizenship. She lived in the same residence on Lancaster Street in Leominster for over 62 years and worked in the cafeteria at the former May A. Gallagher Junior High School in Leominster for several years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg and the church's Philoptochos Society. She loved the beach, her flower garden and was completely devoted to her children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery in Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. LEOMINSTER — Florence A. (MacLean) Kanz, 80 years old, of Leominster, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. She is survived by 2 daughters Patricia A. Peterson of West Palm Beach, FL and Nancy M. Ryll and her husband Larry of Leominster, 2 sons Gerald T. Morgan and his wife Nancy of Pittsfield and Dennis Morgan of North Carolina, a sister Margaret Rixford of Farmington, NM, a brother Ronald MacLean of Newton, 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Donald W. Morgan in 1971, her second husband Walter J. Kanz in 1998, and by her son Wayne W. Morgan in 2005.

Mrs. Kanz was born on January 7, 1930 in Newton, MA, daughter of Murray and Flora (MacDougall) MacLean and had lived in Framingham for 15 years, before moving to Leominster a few years ago. She had worked at Data General Corp. in Southboro and Westboro for 22 years, before retiring in 1992.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. The Silas F. Timothy E. Tata

~ Timothy E. Tata

WESTMINSTER — Timothy Edward Tata, 40 years old, of Westminster, formerly of Leominster, died peacefully on August 26, 2010 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 12 years Jody L. (Humphrey) Tata, his daughters Abigail Tata and Ashlynn Tata of Westminster, his mother Judith (Murphy) Tata of Fitchburg, his sisters Heidi Fitts and her partner Howard Ricker of Grafton and Rebecca Tata of Fitchburg, his brother Shawn Tata and his wife Leeann Tata of Abbington, his dear best friends Rick and Penny Caponi, Mike and Bonny Young, Craig and June Arsenault and Dan and Adrienne Gorka. He was predeceased by his father Domenic Tata in 2003.

Tim was born in Leominster on April 26, 1970 and had lived in Westminster for the past 8 years. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1989, where he enjoyed friends and football. He attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, where he majored in criminal justice. Tim was correctional officer in Shirley for 15 years, before retiring in 2006. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westminster.

For what is to die, but to stand in the sun and melt into the wind? And when the Earth has claimed ours limbs, then we shall truly dance.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 60 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be private. Albert Rocca

LEOMINSTER — Albert J. Rocca, 84 years old, of Leominster, died Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Life Care Center of Leominster. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia A. (Jordan) Rocca; 6 daughters, Judith DiBattista and her husband Nino of Leominster, Janet Axile and her husband Mark of Swansea, Kathleen Lucier of Leominster, Stephanie Safford and her husband Warren of Wynantskill, NY, Karen Jones and her husband Thomas of Lunenburg, and Peggy Jones and her husband Kevin of Townsend; 2 brothers, Adolph Rocca and his wife Claire of Fitchburg and Louis Rocca and his wife Susan of Leominster; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Rocca was born on May 20, 1926 in Leominster, son of Vincenzo and Mesia (Farinelli) Rocca and was a life long resident. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1944 and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Al worked at the New England Telephone Co. for 36 years and was a foreman when he retired in 1988. He was a member of St. Leo's Church in Leominster, the Knights of Columbus in Leominster, the Leominster Lodge of Elks, and the former St. Jean's Club in Leominster. Al was active in the community, volunteering his time for several groups and organizations.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Leo's Church 128 Main Street, Leominster. Burial with military honors will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Michael Hill

~ Michael P. Hill

Stratham, NH/Wells, ME (formerly of Leominster) — Michael P. Hill, 47, ended his life's journey on Thursday, August 19, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at Mass General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born in Leominster, MA on May 11, 1963 to Rita B. (Carrescia) Hill of Leominster and Daniel G. Hill of Leominster. He was a 1981 graduate of St. Bernard's CC High School in Fitchburg, MA and he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and Psychology from Boston University in 1986. Michael also earned an Associate’s Degree in Radiology Technology in Chicago, IL in 2004. He was also a certified Scuba Diver.

After graduating from BU, Michael spent over 18 years traveling the world while modeling for the Ford, Louisa, and Wilhelmina modeling agencies. He made lifelong friends while living in Boston, New York, Chicago, California, Paris, Africa, Italy and Germany. After his modeling career Michael pursued his true passion in the medical profession. He became a Radiology Technologist working at MGH, Portsmouth Hospital, Frisbee Hospital, and ending in Access Sports Medicine in Exeter, NH.

The time he spent with his family, especially in Wells, Maine, were the times he cherished the most. Michael will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor, laughable nature, true love of his family and friends and his compassionate nature.

Besides his mother Rita and her companion Phil Piemontiese and father Dan, Michael leaves behind his spouse Don Beairsto, his in-laws Micki and Whitey Beairsto of Lebanon, ME, his three sisters, Dani Hill Ciampo of Hudson NH, Deborah Boucher and her husband Paul of Leominster, and Melissa Strazzullo and her husband Adam of Fitchburg, MA, his nieces and nephews whom he cherished; Kelsea, Derek, and Taylor Boucher, Anthony and Michael Ciampo, and his two best friends Chloe and Henry. His cousins Kevin Hill, Tommy Hill, Karen Russo, Kelly Haynes, John Carrescia and Ricky Hill were like brothers and sisters to him. They and their families were cherished by Michael. He also leaves behind his godparents Philip Carrescia of New York and Mary Kimball of Leominster and many aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, his Uncle Tom Hill, and his cousin Craig Carrescia.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nurses at MGH for the care, love, and support they gave to Michael throughout his illness.

The lesson we have all learned from Michael is to cherish every day as if it was your last, laugh until your belly hurts, and love like crazy! Michael's funeral will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster Street, Leominster. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Betty DeCarolis

~ Betty R. (Bever) Lafleur DeCarolis

LEOMINSTER — Betty R. (Bever) Lafleur DeCarolis, 80, died Saturday, August 21, 2010, at home after a long illness. She was born in Fitchburg on January 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Samuel and Florence (Forshner) Bever. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1948 and was the recipient of the Gold F Award for exceptional achievement. Mrs. DeCarolis worked as an Insurance Customer Service Representative for 50 years and worked at Champa Insurance Agency and Rome Insurance Agency of Fitchburg. She will also be remembered for her long-time commitment as the Secretary of the Husband and Wife Bowling League at Palace Lanes in Fitchburg from 1960-1985. Betty loved sports and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s games. She was very patriotic and proud of her heritage. Her family was extremely important to her and documentation of family history became her life-long project and labor of love. She leaves a legacy of over 200 family scrapbooks depicting family history and many wonderful and cherished memories. She enjoyed hobbies such as ceramics and macramé and also loved to frequent yard sales in search of nostalgic memorabilia.

Mrs. DeCarolis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be forever remembered and missed dearly. She leaves two daughters, Janice E. LaFleur of Fitchburg and Joyce M. (LaFleur) Maynard and her husband Richard A. Maynard of Winchendon; a daughter-in-law, Nancy A. (Marini) LaFleur-Doiron of Leominster; a stepson, Michael DeCarolis and his wife Deborah DeCarolis of Southbridge; a stepdaughter, Mary (DeCarolis) Thompson and her husband Robert Thompson of Florida; a sister, Beverly R. (Bever) Nyman and her husband Richard Nyman of Ashburnham; eight grandsons, Jamie LaFleur, Randall LaFleur, Anthony DeCarolis, Andrew DeCarolis, Jason Willette, Steven Scimini, Gregory Maynard and James Maynard; two granddaughters, Tiffany Scimini and Shelby DeCarolis; three great grandsons, Eryk DeCarolis, Camden DeCarolis and Devon DeCarolis; one great granddaughter, Sierra DeCarolis; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel Bever in 1946 and Florence (Forshner) Bever in 1973; her first husband, James A. Lafleur in 1976; her second husband, Mario L. DeCarolis in 1991; her son, James M. LaFleur in 1985; and two brothers, Robert H. Bever of Connecticut in 1987 and Ralph E. Bever of Texas in 2004.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 24th at St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster Street, Leominster. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at a later date following cremation. Arrangements are being handled by Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home of Leominster. Robert Bigney

LEOMINSTER — Robert E. "Biggs" Bigney, 54 years old, of Leominster died Saturday, August 14, 2010 in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital after an illness.

He was born in Leominster on May 9, 1956, son of Robert C. and Grace L. (McInnis) Bigney and was a life long resident. Biggs graduated from Leominster High School in 1974 and attended Cape Cod Community College. He had worked as a dispatcher in the trucking industry for many years.

A gathering in memory of Biggs will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2010, in the Knights of Columbus Members Club, 484 Lancaster St., Leominster, from Noon - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Girls & Boys Club of North Central MA, 365 Lindell Ave., Leominster, MA 01453.

Paul Grammont

LEOMINSTER — Paul R. Grammont, 89 years old, of Leominster, died August 14, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Leominster. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Irene D. (Peters) Grammont, 2 sons Dennis P. Grammont and his wife Phyllis of Leominster, and Gary B. Grammont and his wife Jill of Leominster and Marco Island, Florida, and a daughter Kathy L. Fritch and her husband Robert of New Salem, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Brian J. Grammont in 2002.

Mr. Grammont was born in Leominster on November 27, 1920, son of Euclid and Victoria (Poitres) Grammont and was a life-long resident. He was a tool & die maker at the former Independent Lock Co. in Fitchburg and for many years at the former Tilton & Cook Co. in Leominster, before retiring several years ago.

Paul was an avid woodworker who enjoyed making hand-crafted items to give to family and friends.

LEOMINSTER — Heather Anne Sparks, 39 years old, of Leominster, died peacefully Thursday, August 5, 2010 in UMASS Memorial Hospital Worcester, while surrounded by her family and loved ones. Heather leaves her daughter Talia Peralta of Leominster, her step-daughter Delilah Green of Leominster, her mother Joan (DiRusso) Sparks of Leominster, her father and step-mother Thomas and Mary Contaxes-Sparks of Fitchburg, 3 sisters, Allysa Day and her husband Adam of Leominster, Lauren Sparks and Megan Stepton of Fitchburg, a brother Timothy Sparks of Fitchburg, a nephew Tyler Day, 2 nieces Sophie and Nelia Day, all of Leominster. Heather will also be missed by her several aunts, uncles and cousins. Heather was predeceased by her grandparents Dante J. and Doris (Ceruto) DiRusso, and Ernest A. and Winona (Richards) Sparks.

Heather was born in Leominster on July 26, 1971, and had lived in Leominster her whole life. She was a 1990 graduate of Leominster High School. Heather loved to work in the food industry and had worked in many area restaurants as a cook, most recently at Piazano's in Leominster. Heather's greatest joy was to be with her daughter and family, especially around the holiday season.

Service will be held in the Silas F. Richardson and Son, Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster, at 10 AM on Monday, August 9, 2010. Burial will be private at a later date. Angela Angelini

FITCHBURG — Angela (Carocci) Angelini, 95 years old, formerly of Leominster, died peacefully Sunday morning, August 1, 2010, in the Golden Living Center of Fitchburg. She is survived by a daughter Pauline M. Hayes of Orange, 4 sons, Domenic P. Angelini (Caroline) of Leominster, Frank A. Angelini (Linda) of Edgewater, FL, Philip G. Angelini Jr. (Sylvia) of Gardner, Paul P. Angelini (Heather) of Leominster, a sister-in-law Louise Carocci of Ohio, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Angelini was predeceased by her husband Philip G. Angelini in 1992, and also predeceased by 2 sons Alexander and Joseph Angelini, a daughter Joanna M. Swaney and a son-in-law Everard Hayes.

Mrs. Angelini was born in Layton, PA, on September 22, 1914, the daughter of Alexander and Angelica Angelini. After having moved from Pennsylvania in 1949, Mrs. Angelini lived most of her life here in Leominster. In the past 3 years, Mrs. Angelini resided in the Golden Living Center of Fitchburg. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful attention their mother received while in the care of the entire staff at the Golden Living Center facility. Prior to her retirement Mrs. Angelini had worked as a molder for the former E. B. Kingman Co. of Leominster. She was a long time communicant of St. Anna's parish, Leominster, a life member of the Eagles Club of Leominster and an avid bingo player. For many years she enjoyed attending the men's softball league games with her sons at the Leominster Litchfield softball complex and she very much loved to cook for her family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2010, from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St. Leominster, MA, with 10:00 a.m. Mass in St Anna's Church, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster (Rt 117). Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, 357 Main St., Leominster. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, August 4, 2010, 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home. PEPPERELL — Dianne M. Poitras, 52 years old, of Pepperell, died Saturday, July 24, 20010, in Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer. She is survived by her partner Helen “Jackie” Chester of Pepperell, her mother Alice Poitras of Bernhards Bay, NY, her sister Theresa Harrington of Bernhards Bay, NY, her stepson Aaron Chester of Winchendon and several nieces and nephews.

Dianne was born in Lowell, MA on June 30, 1958, daughter of Laurent and Alice (Tilton) Poitras and had lived in this area the past 34 years. She had worked for General Electric Co. in Burlington. Dianne was a member of Women Meeting Women in New Hampshire.

Eva Stone

~ Eva B. (Lussier) Stone

LEOMINSTER — Eva B. (Lussier) Stone, 97 years old, of Leominster, died Friday, July 23, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Leominster. She is survived by her two primary caregivers with whom she lived, her daughter Connie McCarriston and her grandson Gary Brow. She is also survived by her daughter Lorraine Martin of Leominster, her daughter-in-law Beverly Stone of Lunenburg, her brother Alfred Lussier of Wells, ME, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Herman A. Stone and her step-son Robert Stone.

Mrs. Stone was born in Howick, Canada on May 24, 1913 and had lived in the Leominster/Fitchburg area most of her life. She had worked at the Fitchburg Yarn Co. for 38 years. Eva later worked at Digital Equipment Corp. in Westminster and the Best Western Hotel in Westminster. She was a member of St. Leo's Church and the Leominster Senior Citizen Center.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main Street, Leominster. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Westminster. The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lawrence F. Mitchell

LEOMINSTER — Lawrence F. Mitchell, 92 years old, of Leominster, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 in Leominster after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary (Quarella) Mitchell, 2 daughters Monica M. Scanlon and her husband Michael of Acton and Patricia E. Freiss and her husband Richard of Leominster, son James L. Mitchell and his wife Elise Legere of West Linn, OR, 2 brothers George Mitchell of Fitchburg and Joseph Mitchell of Leominster, and 5 grandchildren Christopher Freiss, Sean Scanlon, Laura Mitchell, Stephen Scanlon and Cameron Mitchell. He was predeceased by his brother Hugh Mitchell and 3 sisters Mary Mitchell, Gertrude Pranouskas and Mildred Benoit.

Larry was born May 8, 1918, in Leominster, son of George and Elizabeth (Mohan) Mitchell and was a life long resident. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1937 and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. He served in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater and received a Purple Heart. Larry was a licensed electrician and had owned and operated Mitchell Electric for 33 years, before retiring in 1983.

Larry was a member of St. Leo’s Church and served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Leominster, American Legion Post # 151, the Disabled American Veterans and was a founding member of the Johnny Appleseed Chorus. He was a long time volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and in recognition of his many years of service to Troop 11 Leominster and the Nashua Valley Council, he was awarded the Silver Beaver.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main Street, Leominster. Lanny McNall

~ Lanny E. McNall

LEOMINSTER — Lanny E. McNall, 73 years old, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Karen J. (Lind) McNall, his daughter Heather L. McNall-Lang, and her husband David G. Lang of Somerville, NJ.

Mr. McNall was born August 27, 1936 in St. Albans, VT, son of Leslie and Christine (Phelps) McNall and had lived in Leominster over 40 years. He was educated and graduated from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, VT and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Lanny was an optical technician at Northeast Optimax from 1958 to 1984. He then worked in inventory control at ABC Used Auto Parts until 1998. After retirement, he returned to optical work part time for Fontaine Optical until 2007.

Lanny was an antique and European car enthusiast, and his keen interest in foreign automobiles was acquired while stationed in Europe. He was an armchair fan of NASCAR and had visited several tracks. During his retirement Lanny enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading. He was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church for 40 years.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Auburn. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home. ~ John Lepore

LEOMINSTER — John Lepore, 86 years old, of Leominster, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Keystone Center in Leominster, after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Priscilla Ann (Johnson) Lepore, a son Brian J. Lepore and his wife Veronica of Silver Spring, MD, a daughter Cynthia J. Orelski and her husband Mark of Erie, PA, 3 grandchildren Alexandria Orelski, Jenna Orelski and Samuel Lepore and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Mr. Lepore was born December 23, 1923, in Clinton, son of Lawrence and Angelina (Colangelo) Lepore and had lived in Leominster for nearly 60 years. He graduated from Clinton High School, attended Glendale Junior College in California and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. John had worked at E.I. Dupont Co. in Leominster for 25 years and Digital Equipment Corp. for 10 years before his retirement.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Leominster United Methodist Church, 77 Hall Street, Leominster. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster.

Kathleen Roffee

LEOMINSTER — Kathleen A. Roffee, 41 years old, died Thursday July 15, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with an illness. She is survived by her parents Charles and Laura Roffee of Sterling, 2 brothers Jeffrey and his wife Margie and John and his wife Kim, her nephew Austin and niece Lauren. She also leaves her companion and friend Scott Yahn and longtime friend Joe LaFrance; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kathleen was born in Milford and graduated from Monty Tech Vocational School in Fitchburg. She owned and operated Kat-tails, she also was a promoter for Weight Watchers. Kathleen had many interest and enjoyed working with her hands, at one time working with her father in his construction business. She had an outgoing personality and a love of life. She was a caregiver for a woman with special needs and for Joe's elderly mother until her death.

The family would like to acknowledge Mass General Hospital for their outstanding care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ, 592 West Street Leominster. The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster is assisting the family with arrangements.
