Ferdinand "Phil" Hilerio of Worcester and Princeton MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2019 after a long illness.
He is survived by his three children Peter Hilerio and his wife Lisa, Laura Hilerio, and Jason Hilerio and his wife Amanda, stepdaughter Daisy Navedo and stepson David Ramirez and his wife Leah. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Phil was born in Aguadilla, PR to Leanor Perez and Santos Hilerio and brother to Madeline Hilerio Durrschmidt. He moved with his family to New York City as a young child. Phil graduated from trade school and pursued his career as a licensed electrician. He enlisted in the Navy as a Seabee and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home, Phil and his first wife Terry Hilerio moved to Princeton to raise their family until 1986. Subsequently he moved to Worcester and raised two stepchildren with his second wife Daisy Ramirez.
Phil started and ran his business as an electrician for 26 years. He influenced his sons Peter and Jason and nephew Nelson Santiago to pursue the electrical trade and also passed his good work ethics onto his daughter Laura which she has applied to her work in health care and her volunteer work for various local charities. In the 1980's Phil served as Princeton's electrical inspector and was also a volunteer coach for Little League.He enjoyed nature and outdoor activities including camping, jogging, skiing and windsurfing.
Phil was loved by many and recognized as a happy and "helpful" man.
A memorial military service will be held on Friday, November 22, promptly at 3:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
