ASHBURNHAM---James H. Mathieu, 65 years old of Ashburnham, died Monday, April 24, 2017 in UMass Memorial Medical Center-Belmont Street, Worcester after an illness. He is survived by his wife Wendy L. (Turner) Mathieu, daughter Ashley L. Mathieu-Theriault and her husband Marc of Ashburnham, sister Kathleen Ross and her husband Leo of New Ipswich, NH, granddaughter Lydia L. Theriault of Ashburnham, brother-in-law Bradford Turner and his wife Debra of Leominster.
James was born May 9, 1951 in Leominster, son of Henry and Theresa (Pronovost) Mathieu and had lived in Ashburnham for the past 30 years. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1969 and from the Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1971. He was the manager at Fitchburg Airport for 13 years. In 1988 he became manager of operations at Hanscom Field where he worked for 23 years, before retiring in 2011.
James was an avid Patriot’s fan and enjoyed attending games with his daughter. He also had a passion for corvettes and NHRA drag racing. He enjoyed cooking, reading, and golfing.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 7th from 2-5 pm at the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to A Better Tomorrow Shelter for Cats, 202 Central St, Winchendon, MA 01475.
