Laura (Battistella) Fantozzi

LUNENBURG --- Laura (Battistella) Fantozzi, 95 years old, of Lunenburg, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at home with her family.

She was predeceased by Joseph “Joe Van” Fantozzi, her husband of sixty-eight years, in 2016, and her sisters, Maria (Batts) Lepp of Fitchburg and Rose Kozlowski of Westminster.

Laura was born October 25, 1922 in Fitchburg, the daughter of Dominic and Giovanna (Parolin) Battistella. Laura leaves her daughters, Donna Fantozzi of Chicago, IL and Valerie DeBettencourt and her husband Michael of Lunenburg; her son, Joseph Fantozzi and partner Susan Chaisson of Royalston; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and Joe’s brother, Sam Fantozzi, and sisters, Ida Kendall and her husband Lawrence and Anita Armillotti, all of Leominster.

She was a graduate of Fitchburg High School, and a dedicated member of the Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church in Fitchburg later joining Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster. Laura worked at Antwelt for many years before retiring. During retirement she enjoyed her family and friends and traveling with her husband Joe. Together they delighted in their travels including frequent visits to Florida and many trips that included Italy, Canada, Hawaii and several cruises, and visiting with many friends and relatives. Laura was an avid sports fan of the Red Sox (her favorite), the Patriots and golf. Over the years, she knitted hundreds of colorful afghans in all sizes for family members and donated many to children’s charities.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home 106 West Street, Leominster. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.
