Robert Thompson Obituary

Robert Earl Thompson was born on February 7, 1964 in Alabama. He was the last one of 14 children born to the late Martha and Otho Thompson.

Robert spent his early years in Headland Alabama before relocating to Boston, Massachusetts at 16 years of age. He remained in Massachusetts until his untimely death at the tender age of 54. Robert died the afternoon of December 28, 2018 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Robert attended school in Headland, Alabama. He went on to Job Corps and also attended a Program called Inner City. Afterwards he worked at the Boston City Hospital and the V. A. Hospital for a number of years. Robert later moved to Fitchburg, Massachusetts and worked for Micron Medical Products. He also worked at MCM Furniture until he was injured on the job.

As a young man Robert was strong and worked hard in life. He was a protector and a friend to all those he loved and cherished. Robert was a caring and generous man. He was a loving husband and very supportive of his friends and family. Robert was affectionately known as “Unc“ by not only his nieces and nephews but also by many who lived and worked in his community. He loved to play and watch all types of sports. Robert was truly an animal lover who loved and enjoyed his dogs. His favorite hobby was lifting weights.

Robert was an active member of the Fitchburg YMCA since the year 2000. When Robert was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, shortly thereafter he began to participate in the LIVESTRONG Program at the YMCA and he also volunteered to feed the homeless.

Robert attended the New Life Assembly of God Church where he served faithfully until his health would no longer allow him to attend. His faith and love for God gave him the strength to go through his battle with cancer. Although Robert battled with his illness for several years and fought the fine fight to the end, never giving up hope and trusting in God, he peacefully passed away surrounded by family, friends and his dear loving wife.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and three sisters, Maggie Ruth Thompson, Emma Sue Oliver and Janice Thompson as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories, his loyal and loving childhood sweetheart, best friend, and wife, Lisa Thompson of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. His six sisters, Martha Nell (Kenneth) Rouse of Dothan, Alabama, Mary Alice (Curtis) Bryant of Dania, Florida, Rose Ann Bryant of Dothan, Alabama, Ruby Nell Griffin of Dothan, Alabama Martha J. (Roderick) Curry of Headland, Alabama, and Emma Gean Thompson of Dothan, Alabama. He also leaves four brothers, Otho Thompson, Jr. of Roxbury, Massachusetts, Willie E. Thompson of Dothan, Alabama, Roger Thompson of Dothan, Alabama, Lee (Sherry) Thompson of Worcester, Massachusetts as well as James Thompson of Dothan, Alabama his nephew, who was raised as his brother and a host of nieces and nephews.
