LEOMINSTER--Rodney Ernest Luchford, 90 years old, of Leominster, died Thursday, December 14, 2017. He was born in Fitchburg, on October 20, 1927, son of Horace J. and Beatrice M. (Bennett) Luchford. He was the husband of Marion L. (Deery) Luchford for 69 years.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Fitchburg, where he sang in the Boys Choir and was an Altar Boy. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS Gatling No. 671. He was awarded his Fitchburg High School Class of 1945 diploma in 2001 at a ceremony honoring veterans who were unable to attend graduation after leaving school to serve during World War II.
He lived in Fitchburg until 1956, when he moved to Westminster and lived there until 1971. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Westminster, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Square & Compass Club in Westminster. He was a 50 year member of Aurora Lodge AF&AM and a Past Patron of Lady Emma Chapter No. 27 O.E.S. in Fitchburg.
He moved to Leominster in 1971. He was the owner and operator of Luchford’s Service Center on North Main Street in Leominster from 1962 - 1985, when he retired.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter Barbara Ann Cipriano and her husband Michael of Kittery, ME; four grandchildren Traci Lee Knieriemen and her husband Rodney of New Hampshire, Randy A Bean and his wife Wendy of New Hampshire, Pamela J. Nichols of Georgia and Patrick S. Nichols and his wife Jennifer of New Hampshire; seven great grandchildren Joshua Nichols, Jacob Martel, Mathieu Bergeron, Caleb Nichols, Amber Knieriemen, Lilianne Bean and Riley Bean; four great-great grandchildren Landin Martel, Mason Martel, Noah Dalton and Liam Nichols; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane Louise Pinkowski in July 2004, his sister Beatrice Heimerdinger of Brewster in 2017 and two brothers Horace J. Luchford in 1966 and William T. Luchford in 1984.
Funeral service and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
