Lt. Col. Vincent G. Gavin, United States Army, Retired

ACTON- - Lt. Col. Vincent G. Gavin, United States Army, Retired, died peacefully on August 19, 2018. Born and raised in Manhattan, New York where he attended Incarnation School, Regis High School, Fordham University and CCNY. Mr. Gavin enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1949 and continued with the Army following his active service, retiring in 1979 as a LtC. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Patricia.

His principal civilian occupation was with the Social Security Administration retiring as Deputy Regional Commissioner for New England. After retirement, he was an active volunteer with a number of organizations including the US Coast and Geodetic Service, Red Cross, MA. SHINE program, Montachusett Home Care Corporation and several veterans’ organizations. He was always a tremendous advocate for the elderly and elder care.

Mr. Gavin leaves five children; Deirdre (Bob) Bradway of Tracys Landing, Maryland, Mary (Buddy) Trask of Colebrook, New Hampshire, Elizabeth (Martin) Meighan of Cornelia, Georgia, Duane of Clinton, Massachusetts and David (Stephanie) of Maynard, Massachusetts. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great grand-children.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at Holy Family of Nazareth Parish, 750 Union Street, Leominster, MA. He will be buried alongside his wife with full Military Honors at a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to Montachusett Home Care Corp., 680 Mechanic Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or Catholic Relief Services.
