Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

Leominster -- Jacalyn M. (Rossi) Lastella, NP/RN-BC, age 67, wife of Michael Lastella, passed Thursday, November 9th at UMASS- University Campus Worcester, ICU with her family by her side.

Jackie was born in Milford, MA on May 11, 1950, the daughter of late Fred and Loraine (St. Hilaire) Rossi and lived in Westborough before moving to Leominster 45 years ago.

She was a dynamic, generous, selfless women who was always focused on taking care of others. Jackie was an active Member of the Board of Health since 2010, volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club and the Leominster Office of Emergency Management, and loved being the personal health advocate for everyone she cared about. While she was a lovely mother and working part-time, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Graduate School of Nursing in Worcester, and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. She touched and helped many people throughout her nearly 50 year nursing career. Early in her career she worked with Dr. Viney Soni, Dr. Geralidine Feldman, Dr. Martin Feldman and Dr. Alan Krumholz in their Leominster practices. Additionally, she worked in the Emergency Room, held the position of the Administrative Supervisor, worked as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Dermatology Associates of Worcester County, and the Internal Medicine NP practice in collaboration with Dr. Edward Kamens and Dr. Mark Haberman. Prior to and after her retirement, she was employed with various occupational health organizations as a way to stay actively involved in the medical community.

She loved taking photos of sunsets, listening to music, attending car shows with her husband and the Ty-Rods Club, spending holidays and social gatherings with family and friends, skydiving, and going to the beach. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, two daughters (Andrea and Toni), and friends. One of her favorite places to visit was New York City to see Toni, they would see shows on Broadway, take in live music, visit the museums, stroll around Central Park, and explore a variety of restaurants. Jackie also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Nico and Chris, playing basketball in the backyard and was always their biggest fan as she cheered on the sidelines. A kid at heart, she was overjoyed to join Andrea and Nico on their trip to Disney World and rode as many rides as possible.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael; daughters, Andrea Lastella and son-in-law, Greg LaPolla of Leominster and Toni Lastella of New York, NY; grandchildren, Christopher LaPolla of Burlington, CT and Nico LaPolla of Leominster; brother Richard Rossi and his wife Leanne of Oxford; brother-in-law Tony Lastella and wife Jane of Leominster; brother-in-law John Lastella of Westminster; brother-in-law Robert Lastella and wife Bettie of Satellite Beach, Florida; sister-in-law Patricia Lastella and Sue Andrews of Lunenburg, and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the following Town of Leominster departments: Fire/EMS for all the service they provided immediately after her fall; and to UMASS ER, Surgery, and ICU Team for their help and support keeping Jackie comfortable and well cared for during her stay.

Jackie's passions in life were her family and friends but upon her wishes, we are keeping her burial private at St Leo’s Cemetery. Being the giving person that she was, Jackie became an organ donor in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Christopher and Dana Reeve’s Foundation, at www.christopherreeve.org/donate, or mail to 636 Morris Turnpike Suite 3A, Short Hills NJ 07078.

Michael, Tony and Jane, John, and the entire Lastella family
Please know that we are both heartbroken to learn of Jackies passing. Upon meeting this wonderful girl, all we could think was how welcoming and beautiful - with such a God lightened soul. Jackie - you made me feel so important - and we laughed and smiled at so many stories of family and good things, good thoughts, good memories....
My prayers have been for you all since hearing the news, and hoping and knowing that Jackie was welcomed into heaven immediately.
You served well here my friend - and God wanted you for his kingdom.
I miss you already my friend - I will never forget you - never....
Much love to you during such a heartbreaking time.
Joanne and Michael

Dear Michael & family,

I just recently heard about this tragic loss. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Jackie was such an outstanding, excellent lady. I knew her through OEHN, when we worked together at UMass. She spoke with love about all of you in her family, and the words that were written about her really ring true. I am donating today to the Christoper & Dana Reeve Foundation in her memory.

With most sincere condolences,
Patricia Kent
