FITCHBURG, MA -- Richard L. Blake, 74, died peacefully after a long illness, on July 8, 2018, in his home with Family at his side.

Richard was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to James J. and Mary A. (McIsaac) Blake. As a boy, Richard was very athletic and a talented Baseball player with aspirations of professional Baseball. He grew up in Shrewsbury, Ma. and graduated from Shrewsbury High School. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of seventeen, serving as a Corpsman on the USS Randolph, stationed in Morocco. Once discharged he went on to earn a Degree in Business Administration from Clark University, Worcester, Ma. and a Degree in Accounting from the New England School of Accounting.

Richard most enjoyed spending time with his wife of 40 years, Marie, their sons and grandchildren as well as visiting with family. He was a longtime fan of Elvis Presley as well as a loyal Red Sox fan. He enjoyed his hobbies, coached Minor League, Little League and Babe Ruth League Baseball and enjoyed reading about ancient history and civilization.

Richard had a long, successful career as a manager and plant manager in the manufacturing industry. His career in Manufacturing spanned a number of businesses serving different industries beginning at Charlton Furniture, Carvers Guild, Silpro Masonry Systems, Constar International, C-Plastics eventually retiring from Camco Manufacturing. He was a great guy, loved by all that knew him personally as well as those who worked with him.

Richard is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie (Battaglini) Blake; sons Jason and Christopher, five grandsons and one granddaughter; two brothers Lawrence T. Blake of Jacksonville, FL., and James J. Blake of Florida; three sisters Kathryn Lassiter of Jacksonville, FL., Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Blake of Colorado and Rita L. Briseno of Captain Cook, Hawaii; and one aunt Margaret Konkol of Worcester, Ma.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was predeceased by his sister Maureen B. Bass of Manchester, NH in October 2010 and his aunt Sister Louise Thomas McIssac (Rita), SSJ, of Holyoke, Ma. in November, 2017. Richard and Marie would like to especially thank family members and caregivers for all their support.

BLAKE - Calling hours will be Monday, July 23, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home,106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be private
