Alan Tata Obituary

Alan Tata, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024, at the age of 72. He was a lifelong resident of Leominster born on February 1, 1952, to Anthony and Mary (Testa) Tata. Alan graduated from Leominster High School in 1970 where he played football and met the love of his life Sandra (DeCarolis). Their romance began as high school sweethearts when Sandra accepted his invitation to the senior prom, continued with their marriage in 1971, and lasted the remainder of his life. Sandra has been the loving caretaker for Alan since his stroke six years ago.

For over 30 years, Alan worked at Blen-Color, Inc., a family business based in Leominster founded by his father Anthony. The business manufactured color concentrate used for the plastic industry nationwide. Alan spent his days matching colors to meet customer requests, a role for which he was uniquely talented well before the existence of the high-tech tools used today. Serving as President for years, Alan ran the business together with his father, his brothers Robert and Russell, and later his son Gregg. Alan’s sense of humor, integrity, and work ethic resulted in lifelong friends in the plastic community. Alan was kind, loving, and forever a kid at heart. He had an outlandish sense of humor which was so unique those who knew him well will forever smile at what Alan would have said in various day-to-day situations! He possessed a special gift for making people and in particular children laugh and feel comfortable in his presence. He was fun to spend time with and everyone who knew Alan loved him.

Alan always put his family first and treasured his time with his children and grandchildren. He loved family cookouts and pool days (countless of which occurred at his home on Birchcroft Road), watching comedians, vacationing at Hampton Beach and Disney Word, weekend trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, singing at the organ (often with a fair amount of his own ad libs lyrics), drawing and coloring, laughing with his family and friends, and of course eating. His enthusiasm around eating (and especially eating lots of desserts) along with his infamous taste tests will always be cherished memories.

Alan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra, his son Jason and his wife Lori of Stow, his son Gregg and his wife Katey of Leominster, his daughter Stephanie and her husband Eric of Leominster, and his daughter Jill and her husband Frank of Framingham. He leaves his seven grandchildren who adored him Anthony, Angelina, Rocco, Brooke, Emma, John, and Frank. He also leaves his brothers Robert and Russell, his sister Kimberly, and his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom he loved. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 30th, at 11:00 am at St. Anna’s Church, 194 Lancaster St., Leominster. The burial will follow at Saint Leo’s Cemetery. No calling hours will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alan's memory to St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St., Leominster, MA 01453.
