Alwin "Al" P. Woods

Alwin P. Woods, known affectionately to family and friends as Al, was born on May 14, 1952, and passed away on June 22, 2026. He lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and a steady willingness to help others. Those who knew him best will remember a man who was handy in every sense of the word, a man who could fix what was broken, lend a hand when needed, and bring a sense of calm and reliability to the people around him.

Al was born to Lester and Alma Woods, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Sarah Hustus and Sheila Norton Crowley, and he took great pride in his family. He was also blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; each of whom brought joy to his life. Above all, Al shared 24 loving years with his wife, Vanessa (Marino) Woods, the love of his life, whose companionship meant so much to him through the years.

Al built a long and dedicated career in the plastic industry, where he worked as a shipper for Sterilite Corporation for 32 years. His work ethic, dependability, and commitment were evident throughout his many years of service.

Outside of work, Al enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and meaningful routines. He was a true car enthusiast who loved fixing cars and spending time around anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed going to local flea markets and setting up there, an activity he truly loved and looked forward to. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and long drives, both of which gave him time to relax and enjoy the road. Through it all, his loyal companion Milo was often by his side, offering faithful company and comfort.

Al was the kind of man who made an impression without needing to draw attention to himself. Someone once said “anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad,” a sentiment that reflected the way he lived his life and the care he gave to those he loved. To his family, he was not only a father and husband, but also a source of strength, encouragement, and love. The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Care Central VNA/Hospice, and especially to his nurse Lorraine, for the compassion and care they gave to Al in his last days. Their kindness brought comfort during a difficult time and will always be remembered with gratitude.
