FITCHBURG --- Ann L. (Barrett) Eckstein, 83 years old of Fitchburg passed away May 14th at The Highlands after a period of declining health.
Ann was born September 28, 1941 in Ayer MA. to George Francis Barrett and Una Burdette (MacDonald)Barrett. She grew up in Ayer and graduated from Ayer High School in 1959. Ann married her husband Alfred P. Eckstein on October 26, 1963, and they made their home in Fitchburg on Milk St. for many years. Ann cherished time with her Milk St. neighbors, Kathy, Brenda, Eileen and their families. Ann worked as a baker at the Cookie Jar Bakery for many years, before retiring to care for her grandchildren.
Ann was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Alfred P. Eckstein in 2010, her daughter, Susan DiGeronimo in 2024 and by her brothers, Jack, George and Richard Barrett.
She is survived by her sons, Eric Eckstein and his wife, Missy of Fitchburg, Kurt Eckstein and his wife, Lisa of Leominster, and Matthew Eckstein of Ocala Florida., and her 4 grandchildren, Laura DiCaronimo and her husband, Richard, of Hubbardston, Daniel and Jacob Eckstein of Florida and John Eckstein of Leominster. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and her special cousins, Audrey, Nancy and Shirley and their families.
Ann’s family would like to thank the staff, especially, Karen, at The Sundial Apartments for their help as Ann’s health declined, and the staff and nurses at The Highlands and various Elder Services that assisted with Ann’s care.
