Anthony Montaquila Obituary

August 30, 2024. Anthony Montaquila died peacefully surrounded by family after battling a long illness. As a first-generation American, he was born to immigrant parents and raised in Leominster, the youngest of 12 other siblings. He graduated from LHS in 1955 and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1955-1959 serving most of his time in Japan. After returning, he enrolled in Becker College where he met his wife of 59 years, Nancy Lape Montaquila who predeceased him in 2023.

After marrying in 1964, he began his career as an insurance adjuster in St. Johnsbury, Vermont before returning to Leominster in 1972. He worked at Conrail for many years before a career at Tucker Housewares that spanned over 2 decades where he worked his way up from an entry-level dock worker to the Director of building and grounds maintenance. He proudly retired as the last man standing in the building as the company closed its doors. He was also an accomplished handyman and mason completing many projects for people in the area over the years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his friends in Vermont.

As his children grew, he dedicated every bit of his spare time as a baseball coach and hockey advocate for many years.

As a lifelong baseball and sports fan, he thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of baseball from the Little League World Series to college softball and any MLB game he could catch on TV. He was also a lifelong Bruins fan and rarely missed a game.

In his later years, he enjoyed holidays with his family, cooking, spending time with his friends at Doyle Field, and time with his 8 grandchildren especially spaghetti nights with his granddaughters Emily and Ava.

He leaves his children Mark, Daniel, David Montaquila, and Lisa Lemay. Grandchildren Tyler and Sean Montaquila, Anthony and Jake Lemay, Emily Montaquila, Joseph, Ava and Anthony Montaquila.
