Obituary

Bernice “Bern” (LeBlanc) Young, 79, died on Monday, April 3, 2023. She was a resident of The
Manor on the Hill in Leominster, MA.
Bernice was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada on September 1, 1943 and was the loving
daughter of Louis N. and Alice M. LeBlanc, both predeceased.

Bernice came to the USA all the way from Amherst with her 6 siblings and her mother and father in
September of 1956 arriving in Fitchburg by train as a 13 year-old girl. She attended St. Joseph
School in Cleghorn and later St. Bernard’s Central High School in Fitchburg graduating from there in
1961 earning a full scholarship to Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, MA.

One of Bernice’s first jobs was working at Tom’s Food World with some of her siblings. Bernice later
went to work for Iandoli Markets where she rose in rank to become the first female executive at
Iandoli’s. She also worked part-time at The Sterling Inn as a waitress during that period for many
years while raising her two sons, Brian and Christopher. Bernice ended her career at Fidelity
National Bank working at both the Fitchburg location and the newly opened Leominster
Crossroads site.

In her retirement Bernice spent many years volunteering along with her husband, Robert “Bob” Young
(predeceased) at St Mark's Episcopal Church in Leominster. She was part of the Vestry, cooked for
Saturday lunches and helped organize their weekly flea markets.

Bern and Bob enjoyed 32 years of marriage as well and more than 20 years together at their summer
place in Wells, Maine, always ready to host visiting family & friends. The many trips of Bern and Bob
took them to Florida, cruising to Bermuda multiple times, multiple road trips to New Brunswick and the
Maritime Provinces of Canada, cruising to Alaska and visiting Bob’s daughter, Martha, in Kenmore,
Washington. Bern also once won a trip through Landoli’s which sent her and a friend to Hawaii when
she worked there.

Bernice was known as the family historian. She was an avid reader, rug braider and her favorite
show was “Judge Judy”. She had an incredible memory. Bernice was a gentle soul and showered
those that knew her with her love, never missing a birthday, anniversary, graduation, holiday by
sending out the many cards and constant well wishes. She never forgot a date!  Her love of family
and friends enriched us all and she will be dearly missed.

Bernice leaves her two sons and their spouse/significant other: Brian and Harriet Cormier of
Somersworth, NH and Christopher Cormier and Missy Bailey Asikainen of Stanton, MI, her
stepchildren: Melissa and Dennis Peloquin of Greenfield, MA, Martha Young and William Dinkuhn of
Kenmore, WA, Robert Young Jr. of Palmer, MA and Michaela Young of Florida, several grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
Bernice leaves 5 siblings and their spouses, Julie and Vincent Parisi of Leominster, Charles and
Rhoda LeBlanc of Fitchburg, Christine and Larry LeBlanc-Piispanen of Ashburnham, Richard A. and
Carrol L. LeBlanc of Fitchburg and Pauline E. and Dennis LeBlanc-David. Paul D. LeBlanc is
predeceased and his wife, Mary Ayotte-LeBlanc remains a much-loved, loyal and trusted family
member.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 60 West St, Fitchburg, MA 01420, at 11:00 A.M.
