Betty Yager Obituary

Betty J. (Gray) Yager, a beacon of kindness and love, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 5, 1936, Betty's life was a testament to the power of thoughtfulness and the strength of family bonds. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her as a woman of unwavering grace and compassion.

Betty's early years were spent in Fitchburg, where she was a proud graduate of Fitchburg High School, Class of 1955. Her commitment to service was evident early on, as she joined the United States Navy shortly after graduation, serving her country with honor from 1955 to 1957. Betty's dedication and spirit of giving continued throughout her life, as she was an active and cherished member of the Rollstone Congregational Church in her hometown.

A lifelong resident of Fitchburg, Betty's heart was always with her community until she moved to Michigan in 2006. It was there she spent her later years, surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. She is survived by her devoted children: son Daniel Yager and son Richard Yager, both of Michigan, and daughter Susan Essig, also of Michigan. Betty's legacy continues through the lives of her four adored grandchildren, who will carry forward her teachings of love and kindness.

Betty was the beloved sister to William Gray of Connecticut and Judith Lowe of Fitchburg. She was predeceased by her parents, Ervin W. Gray and Hazel E. (Houghton) Gray, and her brother Robert Gray. Each family member played a significant role in her life, shaping her into the extraordinary person she was.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Betty were touched by her gentle nature. Her hands, ever busy with crafts, created more than just art; they wove a tapestry of memories and joy for all who received her creations. Her thoughtfulness was the thread that connected her to her friends and community, and her loving nature was the fabric that held her family together.

As we say farewell to Betty J. (Gray) Yager, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and warmth. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In lieu of flowers you may make a memorial contribution to Rollstone Congregation Church in Fitchburg.
