Carolyn Carroll Obituary

Carolyn Powell (Cluthe) Carroll, 81, of Fitchburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters on Friday, March 8, 2024.

Carolyn was born on December 21, 1942 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, daughter of the late Doris Ewing Cluthe and Frederick Adolph Cluthe. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Edith and Edward Ewing, and her paternal grandparents Gertrude and Charles Cluthe. She was also predeceased by a brother, Frederick Ewing Cluthe and her former husband, Gary Lee Carroll.

She was known most of her life as Lyn, graduating from Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey and from Endicott College in 1962. As a proud alumnus, she inspired three additional family members to graduate as an Endicott Gull. Additionally, she was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2004 from Endicott and then in 2011, she received the Alumni Service Award by the Alumni Council. She moved to Massachusetts in 1967, living first in Baldwinville then moving to Ashburnham and eventually to Fitchburg. Lyn was the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs at Groton School for 32 years, retiring in 2017.

Lyn’s past memberships have included the Baldwinville and Ashburnham Women’s Clubs, Snowbound Club, Narragansett and Oakmont Booster Clubs, Oakmont Music Parent Association, Endicott Alumni Council, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Vestry. She remained active as a co-founder and co-chair of Endicott Central Mass Alumni Club and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild and a Lay Reader.

Lyn was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. Her favorite pastime was making memories and spending time with her loved ones, holding each and every one of them close to her heart. When we think of our mom, there are many things that make us smile. Her faith in God, her heart of gold, love of decorations and crafting, her elegance, sense of fashion; including her always perfect manicured nails. Her sense of humor, brilliant spirit, her love of the New England Patriots and her radiant smile that brightened every room she walked into.

Lyn is survived by three daughters: Michele Lee Carroll Tyler and her husband Mark of Richmond, VA; Courtney Anne Carroll Snyder of Townsend, MA; Heather Elizabeth Carroll Wolanske and her husband Timothy of Westminster, MA; her grandchildren: Matthew Hall Tyler, Brandon Lee Tyler, Shelby Lyn Snyder Goudreau and her husband Eric, Madison Louise Snyder, Sophia Elizabeth Wolanske and Megan LeeAnn Wolanske. Lyn is also survived by a brother, Charles Edward Cluthe and his wife Sandra Walker Cluthe; a sister-in-law, Kimberly Smith Cluthe; a niece, Colby Cluthe Lish; two nephews, Frederick (Max) Cluthe, and Benedict Cluthe; several cousins and a godson Joshua Morgan.

Our family would like to express our utmost appreciation and gratitude to HealthAlliance Home Health & Hospice and Trinity Compassionate Home Care. The love and care they provided to our mom was simply amazing. A special thanks to these angels on earth Sam, Tina, Denise, Shelly, Maria, Lindsey, and Patty.

Lyn will forever leave an indelible impression on those who called her mom, Nanny, sister, friend and anyone who had a chance to know her.
