Cecile Hastings Obituary

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Cecile Dorothy Hastings passed away on September 3, 2024 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Born in Leominster, MA on September 3, 1936 to her parents Leopold and Rolande Rocheleau, she attended St. Cecilia’s School and Leominster High School. Cecile met her husband Robert Hastings at the Whalom Park roller skating rink and they shared 60 years of marriage. They raised four children: Kevin Hastings (Denise), Donna Boyle (Jerry), Scott Hastings (Peggy) and Robert Hastings, Jr. (Mellisa), and had 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Cecile was one of 7 children and is survived by her sister Irene Viau. Cecile worked at Laurier Press and later retired from CVS Pharmacy.

Known for her optimistic outlook on life, she will be remembered for her selflessness and friendly, youthful spirit. Even in her 80s, Cecile maintained a daily exercise routine and enjoyed surprising others with her adventurous side, whether it was riding a zipline, going on rollercoasters with her great-grandsons, or wading across a lagoon to get to the best seashells. She had a kind, witty nature and was known for choosing the most heartfelt greeting cards that felt like a warm hug.

Cecile loved reading, word puzzles, a good cup of coffee, Florida sunsets, local farmstands, old country music, the Game Show Network and going on drives and outings with her lifelong friends. Cecile especially loved family get-togethers when she would have all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together. Christmas Eve was her favorite and a day she looked forward to every year. Family was everything to her. She will be deeply missed and her unwavering love will be cherished in our hearts forever.

Services to honor Cecile will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024. A viewing will be held at Richardson’s Funeral Home in Leominster from 10:30-11:30 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass at 12:00 P.M. at St. Cecilia’s Church in Leominster, burial will follow in St.Cecilia's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Compassionate Cares ALS, a local Massachusetts charity that works directly with ALS patients, caregivers and their families to provide equipment and support. This is a cause that was very important to Cecile as she lost both her husband and son, Rob, to ALS. CCALS.org Compassionate Cares ALS P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574
