Cheney Chang, 34, of Fitchburg Massachusetts passed away on May 5, 2025 after a long battle with Kidney Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Cheney was born on February 19, 1991 in Fresno, California to the parents of Chai Houa (Henry) Chang and the late Ye Thao.
Cheney was a calm and passionate person with a caring soul. A few of his favorite hobbies and activities were collecting sports cards, nature walks, and playing football. Cheney also loved spending time with his family and friends.
He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 2009. In 2010, he relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina to live with his sister Mala and her family for new endeavors. He worked at various jobs and attended Central Piedmont Community College.
In 2012, he became ill and was diagnosed with Kidney failure. Cheney endured numerous doctor's visits along with endless dialysis treatments until finally, he received a kidney transplant. After years of being away from his parents and brothers, he made a brave decision to move back to Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Cheney’s kidneys started to decline again in 2022 and soon returned to dialysis treatments three times a week. He fought strongly till the very end.
Surviving loved ones include his parents, Chai Houa (Henry) Chang and Stepmom Sor Vang. His brothers; Nicholas Chang (sister-in-law Vanessa Alejandro-Chang), Richard Chang (sister-in-law Kao Sheng Moua), Bruce Chang (sister-in-law Angel Yang). His sisters; Bao Chang (brother-in-law Bee Lee), Mai Chang (brother-in-law Sebastian Heujeune), Mala Chang (brother-in-law Seng Moua), Tina Chang, nieces and nephews.
Cheney will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was a person who was ambitious, determined and wanted to do so much more in life. His favorite motto is “The sky's the limit” which describes him perfectly because he never gave up.
A memorial service to celebrate Cheney’s life will be held on Sunday June 1, 2025 from 7:00am - 10:00pm at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West Street Leominster Massachusetts 01453
