LEOMINSTER --- Chester E. Carter, 94 years old of Leominster, died Monday October 9, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.
Chet was born March 16, 1929 in Leominster MA. the son of Warren A. and Lillian F. (Hicks) Carter and was a lifelong resident. He leaves his loving wife of 75 years,
Marilyn N. (Larkin) Carter, his son Gary A. Carter and his wife Teresa of Virginia, his daughter Marilee Ruuska and her husband Alan of Townsend MA, 4 grandchildren, Aili Ruuska, Adam Ruuska, Kimberly Reid, and Lori Russell, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Chet was employed at Leominster Hardware for 10 years, later working at Merchants Bank in Leominster, and for 35 years was the CEO and Treasurer of the former Pyralart Credit Union. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1947, and was a longtime member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Fitchburg. He was also on the Leominster Historical Commission, the Board of the Nancy Patch Home, National Ski Patrol, Montachusett Twirlers, and the American Baptist Churches of Mass. He was an avid skier and square dancer.
A funeral service for Chet will be held on Saturday October 14th at 1pm in the Richardson Funeral Home 106 West St Leominster. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 11-1. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either First Baptist Church of Fitchburg, 1400 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg MA. 01420, or to VNA Hospice, 67 Millbrook St. Worcester MA. 01606.
