David P. Grossi, of Boylston, MA, passed away peacefully after a long illness on the morning of Sunday, March 13, 2022, surrounded by his family. David was born in Leominster, MA, to the late John and Nancy (Wright) Grossi. Growing up in Leominster, David graduated from LHS, where he spent his time playing for the Blue Devils, as well as attaining many awards, recognitions, and leadership roles for his athletic and academic talents. Dave was a star athlete at LHS, playing football, basketball and baseball. He won the TAG awards for both the most promising athlete during his sophomore year, and the All Leominsterite for two consecutive years. He was a starter during his high school years on the varsity basketball team, and was a two-time North Worcester County All Star recipient. He was co-captain his senior year, as a North Worcester County Basketball Champion, where he led LHS to a 16-2 record. He was the power pitcher for the Babe Ruth league, bringing home many big wins. He loved his days playing football for the Blue Devils, and was game captain for two years. This passion continued as a dedicated fan, never missing a Thanksgiving Day game.
Dave was a graduate of Dartmouth college, where he was a member of Phi Delta Alpha and earned Summa Cum Laude distinction. He then went on to the New York University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. After passing the Bar, David joined the Bowditch and Dewey law firm, where he spent nearly 50 years as a successful lawyer. His distinguished career and expertise in business litigation, employment and labor, and antitrust issues earned him a reputation as a well-respected lawyer. Throughout his career he was often recognized as a top attorney in Super Lawyers magazine, as well as being selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America, and honored multiple times as Lawyer of the Year for his work in Labor and Employment. Most of all, he was revered by colleagues and clients alike for his calm demeanor, approachability, and kindness. He was a model of professionalism and a trusted mentor.
Some of David’s happiest moments took place on Cape Cod, spending time with family, celebrating the 4th of July, and running the Falmouth Road Race for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, biking, cross-country or downhill skiing, and golf. He loved to garden and was proud of his hard work around the yard, having a particular fondness for his daylilies. David had a love for all animals, especially having his golden retrievers by his side. He was also an avid reader, and his love of sports lasted a lifetime
Dave was someone you could turn to for advice, support, or an ear to listen, whether you were his closest family, a friend, or a colleague. He was a kind and compassionate soul, with a welcoming smile. David Grossi was a true gentleman.
David leaves behind his beloved family; wife Jo-Ellen, son Stephen, and daughter Sarah, as well as his faithful golden retriever, Riley. He also leaves his brother, Richard and his wife Linda, his sister-in-law Bonnie Tomasso, and her husband Michael, and his sister-in-law Lori Proehl, and her husband Chris, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many longtime friends and business associates.
Calling hours for David will be held on Friday March 18, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster, with a service of remembrance at 6:30 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday March 19, at 11:00 am in Saint Leo’s Cemetery, Lancaster St., Leominster.
