Leominster- Donald F. Monahan, 79, of Leominster, died unexpectedly Monday, September 5.
Donald was born April 1, 1943, at Fort Devens Army Hospital, was raised in Jersey City, NJ and came to Leominster as a teenager. He was the owner of the former Don’s Carpet. Prior to that, he worked for Gariepy Furniture. He also worked at Selig Manufacturing for years as a young man. Donald was a hard worker and enjoyed landscaping on the side for many years. Donald was a Black Belt in Okinawan Uechi ryu Karate, was an amateur boxer and was a body builder for many years participating in competitions. He was a gym enthusiast and was currently working out at Fitchburg Strength and Fitness. Donald loved art and attended art school. He was so proud of his grandchildren and adored his pets. Donald was the pillar of strength for his children and grandchildren when they faced some very difficult times over the years.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Sherry (Markham) Monahan; Brother Wayne Monahan; three daughters, Jenny Lancey and Brandy Bolio, both of Leominster and Andrea Light of Oxford; 13 grandchildren, Hope Cordio, Giovanni Cordio, Lilyann Flammia, Amanda Ladygo, Zachary Bergeron, Maria Belleza, Ginger Bolio, Shane Bolio, Heather White, Dawn White, Ian White, Veronica Light and Christopher Light; 11 great grandchildren, Sam, Max, Daneyes, Farrah, Delilah, Raylynn, Liam, Orin, Aeylei, lydia and Jed.
Calling hours are Saturday, September 24, from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster.
