Edward W. Egan, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, in Leominster, MA, at the age of 91. Born on September 2, 1933, in Lowell, MA, Edward was the beloved son of Richard and Dorothy Egan.
His life was marked by dedication, love, and an unyielding zest for life. Edward was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. he served with honor and distinction during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa, where he forged bonds of camaraderie and demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his country. His career began while working at Patrick J. Egan Plumbing and Heating, where he learned the value of hard work and commitment from his father. He later joined General Electric in Fitchburg, where he devoted 22 years of service, retiring in 1993. Alongside his wife, June, Edward co-ran Junes Dog House until 2011, where their teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit were evident to all who knew them.
A devoted husband, Edward was preceded in death by his wife, June D. Egan (Casey) in 2014, whose love and companionship enriched his life immeasurably. He was also predeceased by his son, Scott Richard Paul, in 2012; his brother, Robert Egan, in 2014, and his sister-in-law, Louise Egan, in 2018; and his sister, Kathy Hildebrandt, in 2021.
He leaves his step-son, Mark Moisan and wife Paula of Orange, MA, step-son Louis Moisan of Winchendon, MA, and step-son Jeffrey Moisan and wife Robin of Palm Bay, FL, as well as his grandchildren, Brandon T. Paul and Brooke A. Paul of Texas and his step-grandchildren, Kurt Moisan of Orange, MA, Nathan Moisan of Gardner, MA, Michael Moisan of Sanford, ME, Joseph Moisan of Winchendon, MA, and Richard Sirois of Westminster, MA and Matthew Sirois of Phippsburg, ME.
Edward's passion for sports was a defining aspect of his life. A die-hard fan of the Patriots and Celtics, he remained athletic throughout his lifetime, enjoying golf, basketball, softball, tennis, and figure skating jumping barrels. His brief stint in semi-pro football when he was young was a time of great joy and pride. Edward and his late wife, June, also graced many dance floors as accomplished ballroom dancers, sharing their love of movement and rhythm. His adventurous spirit took him and June to the Caribbean Islands, Cape Cod, and Texas to visit his son.
At home, Edward's heart belonged to his Angel dog, a loyal companion who brought him great comfort and joy. Edward spent his final 15 years in the nurturing community of MeadowBrook Acres, surrounded by friends and neighbors who became like family. Their love and support allowed him to enjoy his last years at home, living life on his terms, with his beloved Angie at his side.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended to the wonderful women who provided Edward with exceptional care: Leanne, Silvana, Katherine, and Wendy. Their roles transcended professional duties as they offered home health care, housekeeping, management, and pet care. They treated Edward with a love that will forever be remembered, embodying the very essence of what it means to be loving and friendly.
Edward's life was a testament to the joy of active living, the warmth of community, and the strength of family bonds. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he left behind. Edward W. Egan's memory will be treasured, and his stories will be recounted with smiles and admiration for generations to come.
A service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 2:00 P.M at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, MA.
