Elden Caranto Tabora August 10, 1945 - September 5, 2023
Elden Caranto Tabora of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, passed away at home on September 5, 2023. He was born on August 10, 1945, as an American citizen of Filipino ancestry to Benigno G. Tabora and Emilia C. Tabora. Elden, or Tab, as he was known to family and friends.
Tab hailed from a proud US military family whose dedication spanned over three generations and 100 years of service to the United States Army. Until the age of 6, Tab lived in the Philippines with his family, after which they moved to Japan and eventually his family settled at Fort Devens, where he spent the rest of his youth. He attended Ayer High School and graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1963. He attended college in Hartford, where he studied accounting. Tab worked as an accounting executive his entire professional career. His first position upon graduation was accounting supervisor at Gems Sensor in Farmington, CT, a division of TransAmerica, where he worked for many years. Over his long career he worked as the chief financial officer for other manufacturing companies including Sounder Sports Golf Company, Essex, CT, Dekley Guitars, Bloomfield, CT, and Action Windows, Newington, CT. Tab was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Freemasons.
He was a car enthusiast and meticulously maintained his beloved 63 split window Corvette over the years, along with several other antique model vehicles. He was a lifelong, die-hard Red Sox fan. He began following the Sox on the radio when he was a young child living in Japan. When his dad, Sgt. Major, Begnino Tabora, was transferred to Ft. Devens, Tab was in heaven. He was very charitable and donated to countless causes. Tab was passionate about his family history and extremely proud of his heritage. He was charismatic and was on all accounts a presence in a room.
Predeceased by his parents, Benigno Guzman Tabora and Emilia Caranto Tabora, his step- mother Mae (Fontaine) Tabora, his brother Napolean Caranto Tabora and brother-in-law John Colin Chisholm and his son Christopher Lee Tabora. Tab met his first wife Janet Tabora Lane and they had two children together, his late son Christopher and daughter Kimberlee (Tabora) Hart or Avon, CT. Tab is also survived by his six grandchildren, Chris’ children Emilee (Tabora) Rocamora and two children from his second marriage, Alexandra and Trent Tabora, and Kimberlee’s children, William Robert Hart III, Jake Davis Hart and Ashlee Emilia Hart. And, survived by his great grandson Christopher Mason Rocamora. Tab was married for 39 years to his former wife Robin DeKam Tabora. They lived many years in Cromwell, CT, several years in Maryland and finally Rocky Hill, CT. Tab is also survived by his sister Cara Caranto Chisholm and her family of New York, sister Merlene Caranto Tabora Baker of Colorado and many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 11:30am at Evergreen Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at Brady’s Restaurant directly after the service
