Elvira DeVarney Obituary

Elvira A. (Ciccone) DeVarney passed onto the lord on December 21, 2020.

Elvira, known by her family as Toni, mom, meme, grammy and sister. She was one of 11 children from the union of the late Paolo and Anna Ciccone.   She is survived by her son William DeVarney and his partner Deborah Foss, three grand-children Karen Tadry and her spouse Matt Tadry, Robert Kirkpatrick Jr., and Elizabeth DeVarney and her mother Lynn DeVarney.

Meme also leaves behind the latest great joy of her life, her three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew and Olivianna Tadry.

She was predeceased by her husband Norman DeVarney and loving daughter Ann (DeVarney) Kirkpatrick, grandson Richard Kirkpatrick and great grandson Noah Tadry.

Toni leaves behind three siblings Matteo and his wife Gerry Ciccone, Mary Nelson (predeceased husband Theodore) and Pauline Ciccone. She was predeceased by 7 other siblings and many of their spouses including, Grace Celli (Carl), Lucy Lamaglio (Paul), Michelangelo Ciccone (Avis), Helen Spaulding (Robert), Thomas Curran (Darlene), Paul Ciccone (survived by Vita and former wife Angie) and George Ciccone (survived by Pamela).  Too numerous to count nephews, nieces, god-children and great nephews and nieces.

Not only was Toni a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but a friend to so many people outside of her immediate family.  St. Anna’s Church in Leominster meant so much to her as well as the Sisters of Presentation.  At St Anna’s Church she was a lectern and ecumenical host and taught CCD.  Her devotion was shown as one of her last signed checks was a donation to St. Anna’s.

Elvira graduated from Leominster High School class of 1956.

Elvira worked for many years in the printing business as a stapler as well holding other printing related jobs.  After retiring from the printing industry, Toni moved on to count money for Loomis.  In addition, she volunteered time to the church.

Toni traveled the world with church groups and met many wonderful friends along the way.   She would always come back with hundreds of pictures on her little digital camera and as many stories to match.

Her family meant so much to her that she continued to visit her eldest brother and his wife until she couldn’t drive any longer.  She waited for calls from her youngest sister on a regular basis and visits from her sister- in-law and church friends.

Toni will be remembered for her devotion to family, friends and faith.

Arrangements for cremation and interment will be handled by the Richardson Funeral Home 106 West St. Leominster, and will be held after the holidays with only family in attendance.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made in Elvira’s name to St. Anna’s Church, 199 Lancaster Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or The Sisters of the Presentation, 99 Church Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
