LEOMINSTER---Emile J. Girouard, 82 years old, of Leominster died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at The Highlands in Fitchburg. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Matthews of Leominster, sons Stephen Leger of Leominster and David Leger and his wife Francine of Fitchburg, brother Roger Girouard of Fitchburg, sisters Jeannette Thomas of Leominster and Yvette Emery of Florida, 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Joan (Reynolds) Leger Girouard in 2003, daughter Kathryn Jennings in 2015 and brother Norman Girouard in 2003.
Emile was born in St. Paul de Kent, N.B. , Canada on January 31, 1934, son of Philias and Antoinette (Vezina) Girouard and had lived in this area most of his life. He had worked in the maintenance department at the former Charlton Furniture in Leominster. Previously he had worked at E.T. Cote and Son in Leominster and had owned and operated with his brother Norman, the former Hillside Garage in Leominster. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church and attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church both in Leominster. Emile enjoyed going to car shows.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 25th at 11 am in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 60 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Leominster directly after the church service.
