Francis Henry Kelly, also known affectionately as Poopsie, passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 80 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on August 22, 1943, in Lowell, MA, son of the late Patrick and Virginia (Norris) Kelly. Francis, a loving, proud, and funny individual, will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Francis is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Marilyn (Nadow) Kelly, his two sons Ryan Kelly of Athol, and Troy Kelly & girlfriend Ericka of Shirley, and his cherished grandson Connor. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Kelly, sister Barbara Dumphy both of Worcester, sisters-in-laws Donna LeBoeuf of Worcester and Jai Wrighten-Kelly of New London, CT, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Kelly of New London, CT, brother-in-law Charlie Dumphy of Worcester, sister-in-law Carol Kelly and brother-in-law James LeBoeuf both of Worcester.
Francis dedicated 22 years of his life to the US Army and Special Forces, serving with honor and distinction. He was a proud member of the military community and made significant contributions during his service with tours to Vietnam, Germany, and Korea.
After his military career, Francis worked for the Town of Athol water department, where he displayed dedication and commitment to his profession.
In his free time, Francis enjoyed several hobbies, including bowling, watching the New England Patriots, cheering for the Boston Red Sox, and passionately following Notre Dame Football.
Francis was a member of many local organizations such as the Athol-Orange Elks where he was the 1999 Elk of The Year, VFW Post 650 where he was a former Commander and Trustee, and the American Legion posts 102 & 172.
Francis will be remembered for his love, pride, and humor. He leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and a deep love for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Please join the family in celebrating Francis's life with calling hours at Richardson’s Funeral Home, 106 West Street Leominster, MA on Friday, January 26th from 10am - 12pm. Following calling hours, a Military funeral service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street Winchendon, MA at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Leominster Veterans Memorial Center, 100 West St., Leominster, MA 01453.
