Gary Alia Obituary

Leominster- Gary James Alia, 66, of Leominster, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 1.

Gary was born December 12, 1954, in Solvay, New York, son of the late Vincenzo “Jimmy” Alia and the late Diega (Greco) Alia.

Gary leaves his wife, Kim (Swan) Alia who he has been with for 45 years and married for 42 years; his two children, Vincent Alia and Ashley Wing and her husband, Mike; granddaughters, Sophia and Ella Wing, and Madison Alia; sisters, Marie and husband, Steve Kelsey, Kathleen and husband, Tim Kurtz; several nieces and nephews, cousins and sisters and brothers in law.

Gary was a musician for 57 years. It truly was his passion and outlet. He was an accomplished player on trumpet, bass and piano. He played at the Buttercup, Chopsticks and Singapore when the Prodigy (Tracy Bros.) band was on tour. He also played bass for Luther Guitar Junior Johnson for many years to whom he traveled the United States with and gained notoriety as blues player.

Gary never knew a stranger and will be missed by his family and many friends. He admired his family and friends but his grandchildren were the apples of his eye and brought him immeasurable joy.

Gary’s love and knowledge of trees, shrubbery and landscaping was incredible. He was a landscaper for 30 years working most recently for Plant Care and Oliver Enterprises.
