LEOMINSTER---Glen L. Dinsmore, of Leominster, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 in The Highlands in Fitchburg after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Barbara (Phinney) Dinsmore, 2 sons Steven M. Dinsmore and his wife Denise of Leominster and Michael S. Dinsmore and his wife Donna of Templeton, sister Marjorie Novotasky and her husband Edward of Manchester, CT, 5 grandchildren Andrea Brimigion, Spencer Dinsmore, Parker Dinsmore, Troy Dinsmore and Allison Smick. Glen was predeceased by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Glen was born September 1, 1930 in Lubec, ME, son of Erman and Edna (McLaughlin) Dinsmore and had lived in Leominster for over 60 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran stationed in Colorado Springs & Anchorage Alaska where he was a member of the US Army ski race team. He was owner/operator of BABCO Auto Body in the 60's & Dinsmore Auto Appraisal Service in the 70' before joining Commerce Insurance Company in Webster where he retired in 1996 as a salvage supervisor in the material damage department. He was also an instructor for the Massachusetts Automobile Damage Appraiser course at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and was the mentor for many in the Auto Body & Auto insurance industry.

He was instrumental in the birth, development & growth of youth ice hockey in the area during the early 70's serving as a coach, board member & president of the Leominster Youth Hockey Association. He also coached at Leominster American Little League.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours with his family in the woods & on the water. He was proud of his Down East Maine heritage & returned there often to hunt, fish & snowmobile. Glen was a member of Charles W. Moore A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Fitchburg and the Leominster Sportsman’s Association for many years.

Glen’s funeral service will be held on Monday, January 11th at 10 am in the Leominster United Methodist Church, 77 Hall Street, Leominster. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 10th from 4-7 pm in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Leominster Sportsman's Association, P.O. Box 484 , Leominster, MA 01453.
