LEOMINSTER---Guido “Guy” V. Barassi, 86 years, of Leominster, died Monday, May 9, 2016 in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Nancy J. (King) Barassi, son Peter G. Barassi and his wife Susan of Gardner, daughters Debra J. Cornell and her companion Gary Brideau of Leominster and Carol A. Perry and her husband Stephan of Leominster, brother Luigi ‘Lou” Barassi of Leominster, sister Irene Warren of Leominster, grandchildren Melissa Cornell-Vidal and her husband Ozvaldo “Ozzie” Vidal, Erica Cawley and her husband Ryan, Sean Cornell, Brett Barassi, Zachari Barassi, great grandchildren Alexander Vidal, Ilyana Vidal, Evan Cornell, Dylan Cornell, Matthew Cornell, Anthony Barassi, Hailey Cawley and Ryan Cawley, Jr. Guy was predeceased by his brother Livio “Lee” Barassi and sisters Helen Pelaccio and Mary Gage.
Guy was born December 25, 1929 in Leominster, son of Luigi and Annie (Marrama) Barassi and was a life long resident. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1948 and was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran. While in the Navy, he played football while stationed in San Diego. He played in the Rose Bowl of Pasadena in October 1951. He also played in Pensacola, FL for the All Navy title. He made the All Navy Team, West Coast in 1951 as a middle guard. Guy then was a police officer for the City of Leominster for 29 ½ years, retiring in 1983. He was a life member of the Leominster Lodge of Elks, a member of the Sons of Italy, V.F. W. and the Congregational Church of Christ. In 2012 he was inducted in the Leominster Football Hall of Fame.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 13th at 11 am in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Friday morning prior to the funeral service from 9:30- 11 am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Congregational Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 583 Main Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
