Jacqueline P. (Gagne) Greenough, 77, of Ashburnham, passed away on Sunday, March 15, at UMass Medical Center with her loved ones by her side after a lengthy illness. Born on February 23, 1949, in Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of Lionel and Georgette (Cloutier) Gagne. Early in her career, Jacqueline worked as a nurse’s aide, later joining the Fitchburg State College Bookstore, and eventually serving for many years as the bar manager at the Turnpike Rod & Gun Club in Ashburnham. Jacqueline was an active auxiliary member of the Ashburnham American Legion Thomas P. Sweeney Post #142.
Jacqueline cherished spending time with her family above all else. She enjoyed gatherings with her “Secret Pals", playing Bunco with friends, trying her luck at Keno, and casino trips. Many vacations and cruises with her husband David and family were among her favorite memories.
Jacqueline demonstrated remarkable resilience and faith throughout her life. She overcame significant challenges, including surviving Polio at a young age and later, battling Cancer. Her determination to persevere was truly admirable. The holiday season held special significance for her, as she treasured time spent with family. Jacqueline believed in miracles and that everything happened for a reason. A well-known expression of hers was, "if you don't believe, you don't receive".
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David B. Greenough; daughters Christine Pierce and fiancé Scott MacLean, Sandra Arsenault, husband Mike and her beloved fur grandbaby, Ozzie, Laura Greenough and fiancé Allison Callahan; a son, David Greenough, Jr., and wife Kelly; grandchildren Samantha, Andrew, and Cody Pierce, Jennessy, Jacob, Dustin, Brady Greenough, and Alisha Kittredge; sisters Regine Nadeau and Doris Bellefleur; and many nieces and nephews. Her brother, Maurice Gagne, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, March 27, at 2:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon. Following the service, a celebration of her life will be held at the Ashburnham American Legion, 132 Williams Rd., Ashburnham, MA 01430.
