James P. McCoy SR. was born on December 21, 1948, and died on June 23, 2026. He was the son of the late James E. McCoy, known as “Bibber,” and Eleanor M. O’Brien.
Family was an important part of his life, and he took great pride in the people he loved and the connections that shaped him. He is survived by his son, James McCoy Jr., and by his wife of 49 years, Gale A. McCoy, both of Leominster.
In his early years James worked as an electrician, a profession that suited his practical nature and his ability to solve problems with patience and skill. In his later years, he continued to serve others as an automotive sales consultant, a role he held for 24 years before retiring in 2001 due to health issues. Even after retirement, the discipline and dedication that marked his career remained part of his character. He had a deep love for Ireland, his native land, and that love stayed with him throughout his life. Ireland was more than a place of origin to him. It was a part of his identity, his memory, and his heart. He also loved cars, and that interest became another expression of his lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship, movement, and the practical beauty of well-made things.
Although his time on earth was marked by both work and responsibility, it was also shaped by love, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the simple things that gave life meaning. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was. His family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him will carry forward the memory of his kindness, his skill, and his enduring love for his homeland and the things he enjoyed. James P. McCoy SR. leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, and gentle strength. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered
