Jane Hill Coddington was born in Aspinwall, PA on July 23, 1925. She grew up in Bethlehem, PA, attended Duke University and subsequently earned her BS from Dickinson College in 1948. She and husband Dean Coddington had three children. Jane worked as a marine biologist at Woods Hole, MA as a radium chemist for the Atomic Energy Commission and later as an electron microscopist at the University of Florida. After raising her family, Jane earned her MA from Ohio State University in Speech pathology at the OSU rehabilitation hospital.
When Jane retired, she moved to Venice, FL where she took full advantage of the Gulf Coast cultural offerings, subscribing annually to the opera, ballet, orchestra, band and theater. She also had a passion for travel that took her around the world. In retirement, Jane continued a lifelong commitment to volunteerism contributing thousands of hours to Venice Hospital. In recent years, Jane moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Leominster to be near family. Jane is survived by her children, Carol (Robert) Sarafconn of Sterling, MA, Robert of Marshall, NC and Lane (Darci Thorsrud) of Missoula, MT; granddaughters, Rebecca (Tom) Kaija and RL Sarafconn of Sterling; and three great granddaughters who brought special joy to the last years of her life. No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Audubon Society audubon.org.
