Jane M. (Tessier) Raboin, 85, of Rochdale, MA died Saturday April 11th at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Jane was born 07/20/1940 in Leominster to Wilfred and Mary (Enright) Tessier.
As a young lady and an avid reader, she was a librarian for the Leominster library. After marrying, she was a librarian at the Worcester library. With children, she volunteered at their school library but has done much more than work at libraries. She was at the very start of an organization called Share Our Selves (SOS) giving California migrant farm workers rides to church, providing their children lunches, and giving rides to hospitals that would only see them after hours. From a few parishioners and a priest in 1970, this mustard seed has grown into a forty-million-dollar operation with ten locations in Southern California providing almost every form of assistance imaginable. She pitched in with the sponsoring of a family of refugees from the Vietnam war. She was a high school catechist and an active member of the Secular Order of Franciscans, performing various duties in her local fraternity. Smaller acts of kindness and charity are too numerous to list. She was a lifelong learner, earning her master's degree at 51 and taking work at Mount Wachusett Community College as a career counselor. At an early age, she was blessed to retire and travel the world and enjoy her family and friends with her husband.
She is survived by her husband Raymond Raboin; children Peter Raboin (Ellen) Danville, CA; Marijane Raboin Rochdale, MA; Thomas Raboin Sr. (Lynne) Long Beach, CA; and Catherine Purtle (Charles) Jefferson, MA; twelve grandchildren – Renee Linton, Jane Rodriguez, Joseph Wohlleb, Anna Hemmerick, Andrea Neises, Cecilia Baer, Matthew Raboin, Thomas Raboin Jr, Charles Purtle, Nicole Purtle, Anthony Purtle, and Daniel Raboin as well as 18 great grandchildren. Jane is survived by her siblings Gregory Tessier (Debbie) and Julie Manktelow (David).
Jane was predeceased by her parents and siblings Wilfred Tessier Jr., Jeremiah Tessier, Thomas Tessier, and Andrew Tessier.
Calling hours will be held from 4-6 PM Friday April 17th at Richardson Funeral Home 106 West St., Leominster. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 Saturday April 18th at St. Leo’s Church Leominster, MA. Burial will follow at St. Leo’s Cemetery.
