Janice D`Onfro Obituary

LEOMINSTER--- Janice Ann D’Onfro, 87, of Leominster, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  She is survived by her daughter, Kathy A. Hamel and her husband, Thomas, of Leominster; 2 daughters-in-law, Joanne C. D'Onfro of Leominster and Beth D'Onfro of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and 8 grandchildren, Erin Korgie, Nicholas "Cole" D'Onfro, Lauren D'Onfro, Katherine D’Onfro, Jillian D’Onfro, Madeline D’Onfro, Kaylyn Hamel and Brendan Hamel; and her sister Deborah Damon and her husband, Brad.  Janice was the proud Great Grandmother of Maeve, Serena, and Isla Korgie and Chandler, Mackenzie, and Caden D’Onfro. Janice also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Nicholas A. D’Onfro and their 2 sons, Paul J. D’Onfro and Stephen M. D’Onfro.

Jan was born on December 16, 1933 to Earl and Ardelle (Hatch) Iles. She was a lifelong resident of Leominster MA who graduated from Leominster High School and gave back to her community as a volunteer at Leominster Hospital for over 50 years.

Janice had a strong, unflappable nature and could win over anyone with her cool charm, grace, and poise. She also had a feisty sense of humor, aided by her keen ability to pick up a whisper from across the room. She especially cherished celebrating Christmas with her loved ones, who were grateful beneficiaries of her famous oatmeal cookies and meatballs.

Her gift for caring for others with kindness, compassion, and patience drew people to her. Gatherings with her circle of girlfriends to play bridge or celebrate birthdays were an integral part of her life and she relished spoiling her grandchildren and her pets — especially her cat Mickey. Janice was a voracious reader who frequented the Leominster library on a weekly basis and had a sixth sense for fashion, too. Her vast collection of shoes, sweaters, nail polishes, and sparkly accessories meant that she was always impeccably dressed for any occasion. She delighted in shopping trips with her daughter Kathy and the time they got to spend together.

Janice was also an avid sports fan. While the Red Sox and Patriots sometimes tortured her with their nail-biters, she loved her teams and corresponding game-day rituals. But she didn’t just root for her favorite professionals: Janice attended all of her children's sporting events and later enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s games and activities to cheer them on and lend her support.

She and husband Nick were lifelong partners — together since high school — who shared a pure, powerful love and enjoyed each other’s company immensely. Together, they loved socializing with friends, golfing, playing cards, and traveling. Their annual winter trips to Marco Island, Florida brought gorgeous days in the sun and lively nights hitting the dance floor. From their first date to their 67th year of marriage, Jan and Nick were a consummate couple and an inseparable pair. They always took care of each other and are sure to be happily reunited now.

A Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held at a later date when it is safe for us to gather.
