LEOMINSTER- Jean L. (Hammond) Carter, 93, of Leominster, died Tuesday, December 21, in her home after an illness.
Jean was born August 2, 1928, in Berkshire, Vermont, daughter of the late Donald and Annie (Jennie) Hammond. She was an active member of the Congregational Church of Christ, serving on various committees, Crystallites, choir and one of many pie makers for the church suppers. She loved animals, especially dogs, but took pleasure in bird watching and wildflower spotting. She had the luck of the Irish in finding four leaf clovers. Jean also loved to travel with her daughter, to many places she thought she'd never see and making great memories along the way.
Her husband, Earl Carter, died in 1980. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Aaron Creamer, her brothers, Leonard, D. Keith and Walter Hammond and her sisters, Barbara Hammond and Patricia Schelzo.
She leaves her daughter, Pamela Carter, with whom she lived; two sons, Jeffrey Carter (his wife Donna) and Stephen Carter (his wife Donna); three grandchildren, Stephanie Carter (Lerman), Daniel Carter and Johanna Creamer; three great grandchildren, Jacob and Addyson Lerman and Michael Creamer-Nutter; one sister, Carol Tillotson and husband Norris of Richford, VT; many nieces and nephews.
Jean’s family would like to thank her home health aides Elaine and Maureen, her hospice team, Leominster Hospital and the Leominster Fire Department for all the wonderful care they gave.
