Joan Howitt Obituary

Leominster – Joan B. (Wheeler) Howitt, 94 passed away peacefully to join her husband on December 16th in Fitchburg, MA. Joan entered the world with aplomb at St. Vincent Hospital on April 10, 1930, in Worcester, MA during a last-minute shopping trip. Joan was a skilled medical secretary, graduating from Leominster High and Becker Junior College in Worcester. She then worked as a medical secretary at Fort Devens where she met and then married her husband, Bob. Their love and partnership endured over time. They went together to Brooklyn, NY to earn Bob’s Industrial Design degree at Pratt Institute while Joan worked in the Bursar’s office. After Bob graduated, they settled in Leominster. Joan enjoyed a rich life filled with travel, sports, music, art, hobbies and volunteer work.

Joan lived life with gusto and was great at anything she did. She took up bowling and her team won a major league championship. She loved to play bridge, ski, play tennis and golf with Bob and their many friends. Joan sang and danced and never passed up a night on the town dressing impeccably with matching shoes and jacket. She enjoyed painting, crafts and was a frequent contributor to Bob’s artistic endeavors. Joan loved York, Maine and Naples, Florida along with a special treat of visiting Bermuda every few years.

Joan always did her best and encouraged everyone to do their best with an uplifting story or song. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, son-in-law, friends and her ‘favorite’ border collies who loved her so much.

Arrangements were private. In Joan’s memory donations may be made to the MSPCA - https://bestfriends.org/donate.
