Joseph Hines Obituary

ASHBURNHAM- Joseph B. Hines, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, lived a life that was as full and spirited as his boisterous laugh. Born on October 13, 1944, in Leominster, Joe's journey came full circle as he passed away in the same town on June 20, 2024. His 79 years on this earth were marked by a contagious enthusiasm for life and an unwavering love for his family.

Joe shared 54 wonderful years with his wife, Bernadette (DeMarco) Hines, who was both his partner in crime and in life. Together, they raised a family in Ashburnham that included sons Patrick, with his wife Lisa of Westminster, and Daniel, with his wife Tamara of Ashburnham; and daughter Julie Robillard, with her husband Phil, of Leominster. Joe's legacy continued through his grandchildren: Keith, Camren, Colin, Seth, Stazja, Kohen, Gavin, and Jared, each of whom inherited a bit of his mischievous twinkle. At home, Joe's fur baby, Marco, was his loyal sidekick.

Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Irving "Irky" Hines of Leominster, Mary Abreu and husband John of Kauai, Catherine D'Amico of Australia, and Dorothy McCaffrey of Leominster. Each of them played a part in the colorful narrative of Joe's life, a narrative that will be retold with fondness and a chuckle for generations to come.

Joe was a proud graduate of Leominster High School, where he sprinted into the Hall of Fame with his track achievements. His competitive spirit never waned.

For 35 years, Joe was a fixture at Aubuchon Hardware and on the road.

Joe's passion for sports was unparalleled. Hockey was his first love; he played with the heart of a champion, coached with the patience of a saint, and refereed with the fairness of a judge. His love for the game was only matched by his love for playing Pitch, where he was a master of the unexpected play and the well-timed joke. That look Joe would give required no words to convey whether he approved or disapproved.

Describing Joe as funny, interesting, and passionate barely scratches the surface. He was the life of every party, the spark in every conversation, and the warmth in every room. His humor was as infectious as it was endearing, and his stories were the kind that could make you laugh until you cried.

Funeral services will be held at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster on Wednesday, June 26, with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and the funeral beginning at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
