Joseph D. Richard, 71, peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday after years-long battle with cancer.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Leominster, a 1971 graduate of St. Bernard’s High who retired from Leominster Housing Authority in 2018. He was an accomplished carpenter who took pride in his craft, having built his own home and having worked various projects for family and friends. Joe loved being outdoors, he especially enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and camping. Joe would have celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary in September with his wife Patty.
As a doting uncle and great-uncle, some of Joe’s best times were when he was recognized as Uncle Joe or their beloved “Jo-Jo”. Running around chasing the kids or having them convene in his basement brought him immense joy and happiness.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, wife Patty (Mahoney), brothers Laurie of Westminster, Francis & wife Rachel of Leominster; sisters Louise Redfield and husband Bill of Chatham, Diane Kelliher & husband Ed of Ashby, Terry Risotti, Pauline Roberge, Rita Sheridan-Chartrand and husband Dick “Charty”, all of Leominster; his Mahoney brothers- and sisters-in law; many nephews and nieces, as well as great-nephews & nieces. He was pre-deceased by his infant daughter Christine, his parents Arcade and Claire, brother Denis “Ti-Boy”, brothers-in-law Angie Risotti, John Roberge, Mark Sheridan, and nephew Jonathan Roberge.
Calling hours are on Tuesday, May 13th from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster; a funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14th at 11:00 at St. Cecilia Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster.
