Karen Joan (Gaudet) Allain, 70, of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully on July 28th at the Highlands Life Care Center after a long illness.
Born and raised in Fitchburg, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late WWII Army Sergeant and longtime Fitchburg firefighter Archie Gaudet of Fitchburg, and Yvonne Gaudet of Cape-Pelé, New Brunswick, Canada. She graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1974.
Following her graduation, Karen devoted much of her adult life to being a homemaker, caring for her daughters and serving as a steady, loving presence in their lives. After her children were grown, she went on to work as a communications specialist with Compaq/HP in Littleton for several years.
Karen especially loved autumn in New England and found great joy in long car rides with her family to admire the changing foliage. She also enjoyed clog dancing and was a longtime member of the Mountain Valley Cloggers, where she shared laughter, friendship, and a love of music and movement.
Above all, Karen’s greatest love was her family. Her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandson were the center of her world, and she took immense pride in each of them. She cherished every opportunity to be with them—whether during holidays, visits, phone calls, or simple everyday moments. Her love was constant, deep, and unwavering, and it will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Lisa Barrette and her husband Peter of Westminster, and Christy Allain of Fitchburg; her three grandchildren, Haylee, Madelyn, and Jacob; and her great-grandson, Michael; her brother, Douglas Gaudet and his wife Leni of Northfield; her sister, Dr. Priscilla Aaltonen of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, Heather and Jessica and several cousins.
Services and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Karen’s memory to Beacon Hospice of Leominster or a dementia charity of your choice.
