Karen Rose (Stebbins) Weeks, 68, of Ayer (formerly Leominster & Lancaster), MA passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on November 6, 2022 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born in Leominster on November 28, 1953, the oldest daughter of the late Roger and Phyllis (Pulsifer) Stebbins.
Karen graduated from Leominster High School in 1972 before attending Worcester State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1975, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Communication. Shortly thereafter and while working full-time, Karen attended Northeastern University in Boston, where she earned her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. Over her forty plus year career Karen worked in the Fitchburg Public Schools, the FLLAC Collaborative and RFK Community Alliance/Perkins School as a Speech Pathologist, providing speech therapy to hundreds of children with communication disorders.
Karen was an avid gardener who loved music and spending time by the water. She began singing at a young age and was the lead female vocalist in the spring musicals in her junior and senior years of high school. She followed up by singing in several cover bands during her mid to late twenties, often covering originals performed by her favorite artist, Linda Ronstadt.
Karen was most comfortable by the water. Growing up, she enjoyed spending her summers at the family home on Lake Shirley, more affectionately known as “the camp”, before settling down and raising a family at her home on Little Spec Pond in Lancaster. She also loved to vacation by the ocean at Humarock Beach, where she spent 4th of July holidays watching bonfires on the beach with Zach.
The light of Karen’s life was her three-year-old grandson Mason, who she loved with her heart and soul. The evening before she passed, Mason climbed up on her bed and gave her a big hug letting her know how much he loved her. Karen is loved and will be forever missed by family and friends.
Karen is survived by her son, Zachary Weeks and his wife Jackie, of Townsend; their son and Karen’s only grandchild, Mason Weeks; her sister, Lori Bateman and husband Bill, of Leominster; her sister, Paula Becker and husband Ken, of Tiverton, Rhode Island; and her brother Roger Stebbins and his partner Linda Duchesneau of Harwich Port.
