Kathleen Young Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) M. Young, 72, of Fitchburg, a former resident of Leominster, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29th, 2021. Born on March 5, 1948 in Troy, New York, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Buckley) Mackey.

Kathleen graduated from The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, and later obtained her B.S. in Nursing from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA in 2001 with Presidential Honors. Over the years she worked in a wide variety of medical disciplines including a military hospital, nursing homes, private care and home hospice agencies.

In addition to spending time with her family, her lifelong passions included gardening, crafting, reading, and piano playing. She adored her two grandsons, Julian and Tony.

She is survived by her loving husband Robert M. Young, formerly of White River Junction, VT. They were married on June 20, 1970. Their beautiful union blessed them with two daughters: Mary Ellen (Young) Loschiavo and her husband, Anthony of Glastonbury, CT, and Sarah (Young) Stopyra and partner, Joseph DiMaio of Leominster, MA, and her two beloved grandsons, Julian R. Stopyra and Anthony R. Loschiavo. Kathleen is also survived by her brothers, Edward Mackey and his wife, Charlotte of Kennett Square, PA, and James Mackey and his partner, Sandy Paulin of West Hartford, CT, brothers-in-law, Jack Young and his wife, Ellen of Hurley, New York, Jim Young and his wife, Diane of Winterville, NC and Rick Young and his wife, Colleen of Anderson, SC, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
