Lois, the beloved daughter of Ruth Celeste Johnson (Jencks) and James Dale Johnson, was born August 12, 1931,in Leominster, Massachusetts. She died August 24, 2023, in Leominster after a brief illness at the age of 92.
Lois attended Leominster schools, South Lancaster Academy, and Stephen’s Business College. After graduation she worked in the secretarial field at several local businesses. At the age of 16 she met the love of her life, Leo, at Whalom Park Roller Rink. She and Leo married when she was 19, and shortly thereafter she joined him in Morocco, North Africa, where Leo was serving in the U.S. Navy. Later she served alongside him in civilian life for 50 years when he entered pastoral ministry and hospital chaplaincy. As part of their pastoral ministry they lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and parts of Massachusetts, developing many treasured friendships in each pastorate. They were longtime residents of Stoneham, returning to Leominster in their retirement years. Lois remained a member of Stoneham Memorial Church of Seventh-day Adventists until her death. On September 4, 2023, Lois and Leo would have celebrated their seventy-third wedding anniversary.
Lois loved caring for children in her home and leading children's ministry in the many churches they pastored through the years. Her family was extremely important to her and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting dolls and flamingo themed items.
Survivors include her husband, Leo J. Poirier, Jr., a daughter, Maureen Hodson (John), a son, Timothy Poirier (Merle), brother Alton Johnson and wife Bonnie, four grandchildren: John Hodson, Jr. (Jill), Kristy Hodson, Ellen Musselman (John), Lisa Froelich (Mark) and six great-grandchildren: Dean, Luke, and Kate Hodson, Connor and Justin Musselman, and Audrey Froelich, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
