“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us”
Lorna Moody, 56, of Hubbardston, MA, died after a courageous battle from cancer on January 11, 2024.
She was born in Concord, MA in 1967 to Jay & Joyce Moody of Lancaster, MA. She grew up on a farm, and this followed her through her adult life, always wanting to be outside and tending to her garden, playing in the pool, or taking a walk with her loved ones.
Lorna leaves behind her beloved wife, Sue Driscoll of Hubbardston, MA, parents Jay & Joyce Moody of Lancaster, MA, her brother Lee Moody and his husband Sean Clarke of Los Angeles, California, and family relatives, Kaitlyn (Sara & Ryan) Farley of Gardner, MA, Rebecca Driscoll of Westminster, MA, & Meghan (Lucas & Isaac) and partner David Cioffi of Lunenburg, MA.
Lorna attended Applewild School (1982), Cushing Academy (1985), and graduated with her Bachelors from University of New Hampshire (1989) and Cambridge College (2000) with her Master’s in Education. She has spent the last almost 30 years working at her beloved Fall Brook Elementary School in Leominster, MA, as the physical education teacher, where she is leaving behind a legacy for years to come. At Fall Brook she started and continued many traditions with her co-workers and students, including such events as cup stacking which resulted in a Guinness Book of World Record recognition, Moody Tree Farm, which resulted in FallBrook receiving a Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education given by Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA), the climbing program, after school gym, hosting family game nights for the school to raise money for different events, city-wide Survivor games, Amazing Math Race, and many more. And let’s not forget her love of the duck - everytime you come across a rubber duck it should be a reminder to get up and move and be kind - just one motto of Moody’s that will never be forgotten.
Lorna enjoyed spending her summer months in her Maine home with wife Sue, friends and family. They could be found on the beach, soaking up the sun, walking for miles down the beach, riding on their scooters around town, picking local berries to make their famous jam, enjoying a cocktail at some of their favorite spots, and chatting with the many friends they quickly made and turned into lifelong friendships.
Lorna truly enjoyed getting outside and enjoying what the world had to offer, she enjoyed traveling to Iceland, Turks & Caicos, Grand Caymans, Costa Rica, St. John and many more with family and friends. She fully immersed herself in the experiences while there to get the most of it - whether it be taking pictures of the Northern Lights, finding and flying home with a rescue dog, playing with the monkeys in the rainforest, or scuba diving with the turtles she truly showed a larger-than-life attitude towards fun, family & friends.
Lorna will always be remembered for her love of the beach, and all her 4-legged ‘kids’ she had over the years, most recently, Nyla & Kenzie. Lorna’s community could not have asked for a better partner, friend, sister, or daughter and will miss her dearly every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday January 19, 2024 beginning at 3PM at the Monoosnock Country Club in Leominster MA.
