MARGARET “RITA” HARTRANFT

Centreville, VA – Rita Hartranft, 89, died peacefully at her home on April 12, 2016. Born in Leominster, MA to Robert and Margaret Coleman, Rita was a nursing graduate of Burbank Hospital. She joined the U.S. Navy and met her husband Milton while stationed at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD where he attended. After leaving the Navy she continued to work as an RN at various locations throughout her life.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was predeceased by her husband, Milton Hartranft. She leaves behind her children and grandchildren to cherish her memory, John Hartranft of Vienna, VA; Robert Hartranft of Columbia, MD; Mary and husband Larry Price of Virginia Beach, VA; James Hartranft and wife Anne-Marie of Sparta, NJ; Michael Joseph Hartranft of Herndon, VA; 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter.

In retirement Rita lived in Cape Neddick, ME in the 1980s and early 90s before moving to Virginia to be near to her beloved family. She loved to knit and spend time with her children and their families. Her generous loving nature and her smile will be missed. She also loved her trips to New England to visit relatives and friends and enjoy the beauty of summer and fall. Rita belonged to St Timothy’s Church in Chantilly, VA.

Rita’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St. Leominster, with a 10am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St. Leominster. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are Monday, April 18, 2016 from 3pm-5pm.
