Maryalice Hurley Obituary

Maryalice Hurley, a beacon of creativity and kindness, passed away on January 30, 2026 with her daughter by her side, at the age of 78 in Sterling, MA, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Born on February 28, 1947, in Leominster, MA, Maryalice was a lifelong resident of the area and a cherished member of the community.

Maryalice graduated from Leominster High School and went on to earn her degree from Fitchburg State College. She dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as a teacher within the Leominster Public Schools, where she was known for her loving nature and ability to inspire her students. Maryalice's passion for education was paralleled only by her love for the arts. An active member of the Leominster Art Association and the Circle of Artists in Westminster, MA, she found joy and fulfillment in painting nature and continuously sought to refine her craft through retreats with fellow artists.

Her creative spirit shone brightly not only through her paintings but also in her involvement with the St. Joseph's School and Parish. Maryalice's melodious voice could be heard in the church choir, and she was a vibrant presence in plays and variety shows, bringing laughter and warmth to all who had the pleasure of watching her perform.

Family was the cornerstone of Maryalice's life. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Erin Hurley, a dedicated wife to her late husband, Charles Hurley, a loving sister to Joyce Nikitas, and a beloved aunt to her niece, Maureen Beaudin-Castellani. She also leaves behind many cousins and great nieces and nephews. Maryalice's happiest moments were spent with her family, especially on their cherished getaways to Cape Cod, where they shared laughter, stories, and the serene beauty of the seaside.

To describe Maryalice as loving, creative, and kind only begins to touch upon the depth of her character. She was a friend to many, always ready with a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a listening ear. Her legacy is not only in the art she created or the lessons she taught, but in the hearts of everyone she touched with her gentle presence.

Maryalice's life was a masterpiece, a canvas filled with the vibrant colors of her love, the gentle brushstrokes of her compassion, and the bold lines of her unwavering spirit. While she has left the physical world, her memory will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her. Maryalice Hurley will be deeply missed, yet her light will continue to shine in the legacy she leaves behind.
