Michael Scott Benson, 59, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away on June 17, 2026.
Born on May 19, 1967, Michael lived a life that reflected the best parts of simple, joyous living. He was known by those who loved him was a jack of all trades with a natural ability to fix, build, and improve just about anything he put his hands on. He took pride in working on motors and could often be found spending his time on projects that combined patience, skill, and determination. He had a special appreciation for antiques, and enjoyed collecting items that carried history and character. Michael also loved fishing, driving fast cars, off-roading in trucks, and riding motorcycles. In truth, if it had a motor, he enjoyed tinkering with it. He loved sharing his passions with his children, teaching them about the hobbies and adventures that brought him peace, pride, and enjoyment throughout his life.
Michael will be remembered most for the love he had for his family. He is survived by his beloved life long partner Cheryl Ann Kaddy. He was the father of one daughter, Alexis Benson of Athol and of three sons, Joshua Conlin of Fitchburg, Nicholas Kaddy of Leominster, and Mark Kaddy of Ashburnham. He was also a grandfather to six grandchildren, Jacob, Myla, Alayna, Joshua, Mayven, and Maverick. His family meant everything to him, and he found great joy in the time he spent with them.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his five sisters,Tammy Devarnay of Gardner, DonnaLee Scott of Fitchburg, Paula Germain of Fitchburg, Michelle Freeman of Fitchburg, Faithann Soucier of Fitchburg, and who shared many memories with him throughout the years.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Hardy and Maxine Benson, his brother, Richard M. Benson III, and his son Michael S. Benson Jr.
Those who knew Michael will remember a kind-hearted, charismatic man who was always willing to lend a hand and open his home to those in need. Whether he was helping with a repair, talking about motors, or enjoying time outdoors, he brought his own steady energy to every part of life.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 29 in the funeral home from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM with a burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery to follow.
