FITCHBURG- Michael E. Magnan, 79, of Fitchburg, passed on February 11, 2024.
Born in Leominster in 1944, the son of Martin and Christine (Gillis) Magnan. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School. He spent most of his working life in the grocery business working for Victory Supermarkets, Landoli’s, Sweet Life, Super Value and later at Lura White Elementary School. He belonged to the Teamsters Union Local 170.
People saw Michael as a soft spoken, kind man with a funny sense of humor. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Vietnam and was honorably discharged in January of 1970. He enjoyed playing his guitar and “punching” up the computer to research any and all subjects. We called him the “Music Man” because he would know any song, artists, lyrics and how long the song would be down to the seconds. In April, he would have been 80 years old and in June he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Anne.
He's predeceased by his son, Patrick (Rick) Magnan, his parents and his brothers-in-law George Zeiders, Robert Nichols and Paul Nichols. He is survived by his wife, Anne (Nichols) Magnan, and his daughter, Melanie Magnan; sisters, Michele Zeiders, Mary Charpentier and her husband Paul; brother, Martin “Babe” Magnan and brother-in-law, Ronald Nichols. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and close friends he considered family.
As per Michael’s wishes, there will be no public service. There will be a private celebration of life and a military send off in the early Summer at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. www.woundedwarriorproject.org
